Question: Can you guarantee that it will be supported it any and all future versions of Windows in a stable fashion? That's why I'd prefer to try and move to Linux/stay on Windows 7 now; rather than move to Windows 8, then 9, etc with that only for MS to completely break compatibility later.

Now I can see why MSFT REALLY wanted Your PC stay on 24/7/365 of whats their actual expectations without shut down/ power off .. WIN8 has many hole to open for hackers.. Geez..

I downloaded and installed today. Ive been running it for about 4 hours right now and I have to say. 15 minutes and you've got this thing down. Stability with all my weird quirky hardware (my ups was my primary concern) and all of that. My question is will windows shut down when the ups tells it to :S


EDIT--- Cyberpower already addressed it.. the personal powerpanel is compatible with windows 8



Secondarily.. Dosbox works, played xcom with it and its not an issue. I am seeing very little software compatibility issues with Windows 8. Whatever fuss there has been it seems to be blown out of proportion by a very small minority, the same minority that is resistant to all change.


And hey.. I didn't upgrade from windows xp to 7 until about a year ago.

I broke down last night after reading tons of mixed reviews and took them up on the $15 dollar offer for those customers who owned a branded store bought computer. Which by the way if you are on the fence about trying it for $39.99 I can tell you with sincere honesty, they aren't checking to see if you really do. All you do is give your information, pick a Best Buy rig (Like a Compaq or something) from a drop down menu, and they will send a promo code to your email. Go through the purchase, add the code, and bam, $15 bucks.

I really don't know how I feel about it. It is certainly extremely snappy on my rig (Yes, even snappier than Windows 7), and games and apps install just fine, but it's definitely fractured and not intuitive at all. This is the first time I've ever upgraded my OS at launch though (it took me forever to give up Windows XP), and all I can say about it is, if Microsoft is basically offering this to us for $15 bucks (again they take the application to get the discount on faith), they are either desperate to get this on as many PC's as possible, or have no confidence that anyone is going to want it with Windows 7 being so universally accepted.

You mean the transitions...

I don't think it matters too much considering you can still access the charm bar while in the Start menu.

Besides, the charm bar transition is already complete before you've finished swiping the corner.

The problem with option 2 is that Settings is the last place that one would logically look for power-related functions. Next they'll be placing UAC controls in the Mail application.

I ACTUALLY like Windows 8. Will I be installing it on my rig? No. My family desktop? Yes. I like stuff that makes it easier for my parents(people that are not tech savy, who just browse the internet).
