Hello community (say it in SivHD's voice), I was wondering if I could possibly recieve any help with an up & coming build that I'm planning. At this point, it's just an old HP a6330f that will soon be transitioning into this evolving beast (piece by piece). So, without further adieu...
Remember, I already have an old a6330f (NARRA2 design w/ athlon 64 x2 5600). I also have an ASUS GT520 Silent and an older SoundBlaster PCI card that's still intact. I'd probably just use the UD3's SPDIF slot instead.
My expected budget is ~$500 (USD), but I know that I'll be pushing the $750 mark pre-water cooling. Not sure if I want to do a custom loop or a 2x Antec Kuhler 620 building using DWood's bracket/backplate combo for the GTX480.
The build consists of these parts (using pcpartpicker for simplicity)
PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/lpI8
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/lpI8/by_merchant/
Benchmarks: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/lpI8/benchmarks/
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960T Black 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($118.24 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($134.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 480 1.5GB Video Card ($169.99 @ EVGA)
Case: Corsair 400R ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: Rosewill CAPSTONE Series CAPSTONE-750-M 750W ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply (109.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $648.19
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
I chose the 960T because I would love the experience with that much tweaking. However, if it's not a viable purchase, I will go to the 955 instead.
As for the PSU, more watts (usually) never hurts. Allows for a 2 card setup later.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you have any advice on how to go about cooling, that would be amazing. I would much prefer performance over silence, but silence is still a big facter (ie maybe water cooling, if it's viable).
