IB-E is Q3 atm and saying haswell will be a P4 -> C2D difference is hardly conservative... For haswell most of the improvement is going to be from the igp which is supposed to get a 100% improvement. You have to remember that they don't really have extra die space to waste since they want low power parts.

Besides, SB-E has 50% more perf than SB and around 45% over IB. Haswell wont touch 2011 Hexa cores for multithreaded stuff.

15-20% faster than Ivy across the board will be a miracle, don't forget that Ivy is also 22nm, thus Haswell can't even enjoy the same advantage that Sandy had over Nehalem. Again, Haswell is large in part about improving power consumption and improving iGPU performance, the later of which should be twice as fast as HD4000 in Ivy; but I'm sure most here don't care at all about any of that for our desktop rigs with discrete GPUs.

P4 to C2D was such a difference because Netburst was a failed architecture. Even AMD eventually made Netburst look bad. Honestly I think the biggest thing Haswell has going for it as far as us enthusiasts will care about is that Intel is supposed to be going back to solder TIM as well as open up BCLK tweaking, both of which should mean more flexible overclocks and we should finally start seeing 5GHz+ with a lot more regularity. If I upgrade my Z77 Ivy rig to Haswell it will be because of that as it will be fun to play with and good to brag about, not because of IPC improvements, and it would certainly keep the role of supplementing my X79 rig, not replace it.

Because its not waiting? The 3930K is available right now and will be faster than Haswell for anyone who can use more than the 4 cores we'll be limited to on s1150. Then, once Ivy-E hits, it should mean a drop in upgrade that provides 8+cores that will widen that gap even further. This all comes down to whether or not the OP needs or can even utilize the multithread performance.
