Trying to figure out how to silence my Lian Li A05-NB

Ok, so my fileserver is in an A05-NB case and there's 5 hard drives in there which i need to try and silence as much as possible. There's 3 120mm noctua fans in there and the push-pull fans are mounted on rubber fittings. I can't afford to do anything crazy with the case, so i need to do what i can with what i have. so, as far as i can see, these are my options:

  • change the case fans
  • undervolt the case and cpu fans to drop the speeds (obviously there are possible heat issues there)
  • line the case with acoustic matting

ok, so those seem to be the obvious options. also, i considered adding a fan controller, rather than permanently undervolting them, would this possibly be a better idea?

also this may seem a little daft, but i'd considered suspending the case from the bottom of the desk using webbing straps, would this be worth it? Obviously vibration carrying through the chassis is the main cause of the problem and i wonder whether that would help?

Any ideas guys?

i say the acoustic matting !

My previous case was the PC-A05N before I switched to a Fractal Core 1000.
The thin aluminum makes it really difficult to silence and stop vibrations, even with the acoustic material.
I had the best results by installing a fan controller.

thanks for the input guys! i've undervolted the case fans for now as i had the bits lying around: it's made a HUGE difference. It's like a different machine now. Next on the cards is acoustic padding, then later on i'll buy a fan controller.
