A few quick Win 8 clean install questions

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I plan on downloading and installing Windows 8 tonight on a clean install. From my understanding, I will be able to burn a DVD and boot from that to install. That's what I plan on doing.

To those who have already installed: Is the installation process similar to Windows 7 where you can format all drives connected to computer prior to installation right through the installer? I have two secondary drives that I want to use, one that I want formatted, one that I don't. Can I format one of the secondary drives during the installation, or will I have to do it in Win 7 prior to installing Win 8?

Also, will my drive (formatted in NTFS) that I don't want to format be recognizable in Windows 8, or will it show up as "Unallocated space" that I need to format?

Thanks guys.

Yes, it is like windows 7, you just need to have your serial key ready during the install or else it won't let you install at all.

  1. format the drive you want to format now.
  2. disconnect all drives from the system but the one you are installing to
  3. install
  4. once installed reconnect the drives.

Only thing I may suggest further into the installation is to use a local account, gives the option of using an e-mail as a user account or just use a local. (e-mail method you would log into that address to log into windows)

Will all the metro apps that use a windows account still work with my live.com email if I chose to use a local account?

Hey guys, I have a new question and didn't want to make a new thread.

Asus does not yet have my motherboard drivers or sata drivers for Windows 8. When I tried to install the win 7, I got an error message saying that the OS is not supported. I can run them in compatibility mode though and they run just fine.

My question is, should I install the Windows 7 motherboard and sata drivers or is that a no-no? Thanks.

I ran vista drivers with windows 7 before launch and it wasn't really an issue, obviously there not much other choice. Just make sure you have your relevant information backed up but if it's just a worry about components they will be fine.

With the download it will scan your system and tell you of any incompatibility issues before making the ISO image to copy to your DVD. I installed nothing besides the display driver and sound driver after the install. The rest was taken care of by Windows 8.
