hey guys im in the market for a new phone, and i have been using a iphone for a long time, im actually pretty bored of them and their design -_- ios is bland and nothing new is really happening it almost seems like apple died with steve jobs, now dont get me wrong i am a pc guy and pc gamer, but im getting off topic... my question is which phone is better samsung galaxy s3 or iphone 5? i would like to hear what you guys recommend me and why you think i should choose that. and i hear so much about routing your andriod but i heard it voids your warranty and if you screw up your phone is nothing more than a paper weight.. also i live in north america if that makes a difference with that quad core and duel core thing. thanks in advance thumb.gif

Hardware wise it's pretty close, I think the iPhone 5 edges out though. That being said, I'm a massive Android fanboy and absolutely love my Galaxy S3. It's a bit large for some people's taste and I've never used any NFC/SBeam features, but the screen quality is gorgeous and the battery suits me fine. I also like how I don't have to yank the battery to change the microSD card. Another thing to consider is moving libraries - your iTunes music, your Apps Store purchases, a lot of this won't travel over. I usually recommend iPhones to people who need something that's simple and non-technical, but if you know your way around technology I think you'll like the incredible array of customization you can get through rooting the S3. Rooting does technically void the warranty, but honestly I've had rooted phones repaired multiple times, the store people don't always care. And the quad vs dual isn't a big deal, most apps don't use all those cores anyways.

tl;dr - Go for the S3 if you think you'd take advantage of the customization it offers (even without rooting, though I definitely suggest it). Otherwise I'd stick with the iPhone, as much as it pains me to say that.

Honestly unless you only care about benchmarks, both the US S3 and the iPhone 5 are exactly the same in terms of speed. This is without modding or anything. Having tried both, the iPhone 5 seems like it's better for people with small hands or don't care about customization. The S3 has way more stuff you can do with it terms of looks and stuff you can do with it.

I eventually decided on the S3 since my big hands can reach the whole screen and I've had zero problems with it. I liked that I'm not tied down to Apple's limitations and I get 64gb more storage room on it. No mods or rooting yet because I wanted to see if it worked ok before I did that.

I will say, I held an iPhone 5 after using my S3 for almost a month and wow it feels/looks so tiny. I do like the big screen for watching movies and playing games.

They both use the same glass so that really doesn't matter. People may comment about the S3 having a plastic back, but the iPhone 5 has that chipping problem on it's back, so you'd want a case with either one.

yeah i like the s3 allot i just wish they did a black for it -_- lol but o well, and if i get it i dont think i will root it, i can build a computer just fine, but when it comes down to operating one and doing downloads and looking through files im more of the average user so rooting might not be for me, but my friend rooted his gs2 so if i really want to do it id have him do it. i also hear with the jelly bean install the phone got faster to. and i dont got much music or apps on my iphone most of them are free and the music was downloaded not lega*** lol

Samsung Galaxy S3 is the better phone.

Why?

Because the Samsung Galaxy S3 has much more functionality. It has more hardware features and software features and these combined makes a much better phone than the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 doesn't even have burst shot mode on its camera and the map application is basically useless (incorrect directions, glitchy graphics and is buggy). The iPhone 5 also doesn't have NFC so say goodbye to sociability.

I'd say pick the Samsung galaxy S3, it has better features and the price is way cheaper.

He is a iphone user stick to IOS, Android is so ahead of Apple that it will take him a few weeks to really understand Android and all the crazy stuff you can do, even without rooting
