Getting back into folding, having problems

Thread Starter
Winter has arrived once again and I'm getting back into folding. Last year I was on a GTX 275, but now I'm on a GTX 660ti. I've tried the GPU3 client, but it just sits at 0% and doesn't ever engage the GPU. The f@h site say it's for Fermi only, and I'm on a Kepler, I'm assuming I should be able to run it and that they didn't update the site to say (Fermi or newer).

Here are my log file contents. The client has run for 5 minutes with no updates to the log file, is still at 0%, the GPU isn't getting warmer, and the visual client when opened says that the core is not in use. Please help so I can get to folding for OCN and the cure. smile.gif

You need the updated GPUs.txt file. Jesusboots made an excellent Kepler folding guide. Let me find the link for you.

I'll look more into this link you've posted later, that seems like a ton of work.

I got it working after downloading a beta client which I could only find through a post on their forums that google led me to:
https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/FAHClient/wiki/BetaRelease

Just ran the client and it automatically engaged both my GTX 660ti and my GTX 275, as well as my i7 950. However I don't want it to use my i7 right now, as I'm using a stock heatsink. I may have to go with the link you've posted, the "FAHControl" client, named ironically, gives me no control over what hardware I allow to fold. It's also only utilizing 30% of each GPU, which is depressing.

You should be able to have v7 only fold on your GPU, there is an option during the install, but even after the fact you can change it. Let me go look at my gaming rig, I have v7 in windows on that.

How do you know if it's "v7"? All I see is it is named "FAHControl - Folding@home Client Control"

EDIT: Ok yea it's the v7 client. After widening the window I see I can choose advanced options. Looking at those now.

If its like v7.1.52 You go to Configure -> Slots, then you can add / remove them from there. I'm going to install 7.2.9 right now.

Just checked, it's the same, so to remove the CPU, just highlight the smp one from the slots tab, and remove.

Ok I managed to get rid of the SMP/CPU folding. But something's still wrong, the GPU clients are at 30% still and the progress on the GPU tasks is sitting at 0%. Where is the .txt file you mentioned earlier?

Crap, it looks like the 660ti might not yet even be supported:
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=1054293

But, it's in the GPUs.txt file, located here: https://fah-web.stanford.edu/file-releases/public/GPUs.txt
0x10de:0x1183:2:3:GK104 [GeForce GTX 660 Ti]

EDIT: Looks like newer drivers might be needed, 306.97 drivers, specifically.
EDIT: Nope, even new drivers didn't help, GPUs still stuck at 30%.

Here you go: http://folding.typepad.com/news/2012/04/support-for-new-gpus-such-as-kepler-in-the-v7-fah-client.html

They have directions on the site on what to do.

But bascially just download that file, and drop it in your "Data Directory" the default is: C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient

Oh, make sure to stop the client, and exit it first.

Oh, I hadn't seen that. I know we still have some guys in TC using 680s, wonder why just the 660ti wouldn't work.

I think that one's a bit outdated, supposedly the newest V7 automatically handles all new GPUs.

This is frustrating. I can't believe people actually fold when this much work is required to get it working.

Anyway, yea the cores won't even load, here's my V7 log file: Log File (Click to show)

Alright, I'm done, it definitely appears the newest v7 doesn't support kepler:
http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=225980

I'll try again once cards that have been out for 7 months are officially supported.
