GTX 660TI vs ATI 7950 vs GTX 580...

Thread Starter
Im still using an ddr2 AMD system with 2x evga SLI GTX260 55nm OC editions. Until recently, I could play most of the games with perfect graphics and almost maxed out. But since borderlands 2 came out I thought it maybe the time to get a new decent DX 11 card but I cant decide between the three cards above, as far as I realized, they are very close (even the prices). I love the drivers and the physx of the nvidia, but the ati also seems quite powerful and I have the chance of dedicating one of my 260s to physx... id therefore, like to hear some opinios please:D

What is your budget?

The 7950 will overclock like a beast and should play BL2 fairly easily. I heard that BL2 was a very CPU dependent game too. Not sure how accurate that is though. But you could use one of your 260's as a physx card as well.

HD7950 is extremely fast when it comes to oc, so if you plan do some tweaking, I'd go with amd.

So I told you "when it comes to OC...". Anyway 660ti loses when MSAA is enabled and memory bandwidth hungry games. After rematch, I mean the new 12.11, 7950 is more powerfull and doesn't lose in BF3, like before.

Then one last question is, does it worth buying some fancy 900 mhz edition or as far as I know, I should have no problems ocing a stock 800 my self. Amd even released an official software for that right?thumb.gif

+1 for the HD7950. You can even get a HD7870 if you are low on cash and oc and it will be the same as HD7950 in terms of speeds.

I don't think there is a decent reference 7950 800Mhz good for oc, so you will need to look around for some nonreference cooling. They are not much more expensive tho. eg. Gigabyte WF3
