Another bash thread. They aren't preventing you from installing programs on your machine. They simply weren't going to sell them through the official app store. I'm guessing it was originally an idea to not expose minors to violent content.

so Microsoft made it where you couldn't use their NEW way of getting games because of this adult rating.. and people would have to continue to get the game the same way they always have. I don't see why anyone would even really care, except the fear-mongerers (OMG MS BANNED GAMEZ FROM PLAYING AT ALL ON WINDOWS 8!!!!1111 THEY'RE CONTROLLING US MORE AND MORE, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING MS DON'T WANT YOU TO ON WINDOWS 9!!!!111) who look for reasons other than 'Metro' to bash the new Windows. It's really MS' decision as to what goes on their store, and it is nice that they have a place like Ubuntu's Software Center where people can go and download verified safe/compatible software for their computer. As long as there remains the 'legacy' installation option for software, it's not a bad thing.
