Hey guys, I'm still pretty new to the audiophile world so bear with me!
I recently replaced my Presonus 22VSL with the larger Firestudio Project to help with my larger recording sessions. Unfortunately, the gain on the outputs is much greater than my old 22VSL. I used to enjoy fiddling with my sub and monitor balance but now every notch on the volume knob is ~way~ too sensitive and my sub is either booming or silent.
Given that I use all powered speakers and subs, will there be any noticeable loss in audio quality for me to turn the gain down on the individual monitors so as to allow finer-grain control on the mixer itself? I always figured it was best for fidelity to boost to the source and drop the gain on the speakers! I tested by turning my sub down a bit and raising the gain on the mixer but it made my mix sound muddy and flat. Am I imagining things? What is the best course of action with a mixer like this?
Thanks again guys, sorry for the confusing post!
