My explanation is that if you're overclocking most people will want to understand there limit so they can see how much higher a overclock they can achieve without breaking the thermal barrier that there CPU has.
It is vital to know how hot your CPU can really run when OVERCLOCKING If it's stock, don't worry, overclocking you worry.
I can find that limit with Prime which is already putting incredible amounts of stress on my CPU. Explain to me why 2 of my friends who have 4.5ghz clocks fail prime after 30-60 minutes but can pass 150 tests of IBT?

That Post Count, i don't even know why people want to reach 5Ghz, after 4,5 there is little increase in performance, and these Ivy chips run hot enough at 4.5 with custom loop.

Well here is my IBT for all of you asking. I ran 5 runs just now.

because there OC are not stable, that why people test with multiple programs. 100% stable is what you make it to be. stable to you might not be to others.

up voltage to 1.35v and try 4.8ghz and see if you can pass a few runs of ibt and prime. you willl probably need 1.4v-1.5v for 5ghz.

i think its not your temps holding you back to get that 5.0ghz oc..

heres a 10x run IBT @5.0ghz with 1.5V vcore set in Bios
cores temp: 73-82-84-77C

no whea errors..

i prolly could have run that 100x and not crash,
all i know is, if i run this with prime, i would get into trouble after a while,
workers stopping, whea errors etc, so to make it prime stable,
i need (prolly alot) more vcore, above 4.8ghz the voltage is jumping up noticeable
i consider a system stable after doing prime 18/24H,
without whea errors etc..

guess you have to try it yourselfs, and see what vcore you need to get that 5ghz stable,
like i said, its not the temp thats holding you back now,
its the max vcore you gonna run into to make it stable smile.gif

must say, i do have a bad chip voltage wise for ocing,
we have some members here that run 5ghz, and still have a nice vcore

I am also 5 GHz 24 hour prime stable with my 3770k. I run IBT for a bunch of rounds to make sure it doesn't crash right away then I start testing with prime.

^ I did a similar thing. IBT gave me a quick judge on stability and load temps at 5Ghz. I then followed up with custom blend in Prime95.

Just set the multiplier, and see what you need increase your Vcore to get it stable. With your delidded chip, 5.0ghz should be possible, although you won't know till you try. Im guessing you'd need around ~1.45v Vcore.
