Anything over those kefs you posted or similar, is pointless IMO for as pc system. My airmotiv 6's were $699 and even that is getting into overkill range for the PC.
How is high end gear pointless on a PC? Except for a couple of transports that use I²S or an external clock, asynchronous USB is the most perfect way to get data from the source to the DAC chip due to being jitter free. As I mentioned before, the last few audio shows, plus various dealers around here are now mostly using PC as a source. In fact, many publications won't even bother reviewing CDPs soon. Using a PC as source is the way of the future, like it or not.

Besides, those Airmotivs are nothing special with their off axis rise from 3-4K. A simple waveguide could have fixed this. The KEFs have smooth off axis throughout their bandwidth as do the Genelec monitors you mentioned.

IIRC, you don't need to use the DAC section. You could also sell the Music Streamer and recoup some money.

I never said the airmotiv's were high end, In fact, I said they were mid-fi. Overkill would be their price for pc use, not their performance. Their performance is good enough to sit an listen to music on my PC. Using your PC as a source and buying "hi-end" speakers for a computer desk near-field are 2 very different things. I, as I'm sure you, use my PC for pretty much everything, although I generally use my oppo 95 for any type of analog because of the sabers. My 80.3 does a good enough job on it's own but the 95 is a clear step above as I'm sure the 105 will be also.
Do you think you can hear a difference with an asynch usb?
Yes, I've compared coax to asynch USB on my Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2. In a blind test there was a difference, although very subtle. Most notably in the top end FR.

]Klipsch, is NOT the same it used to be. When the original owner passed, the son took over. Which then basically sold the company out. Most of there products are now farmed out and they just are not the same as they used to be 5-10yrs ago.

To say, your budget is ~$1000, then I would go with a nice 2 channel amp and set of bookshelf speakers.
You can get these both from a dealer for under $1k for the amp and speakers. (Audio dealer, dont try crab buy or place like that.)
Integra 2.1 Amplifier

B&W 685 Bookshelf's

The amp is a amp only. All volume control is done externally, ie: your computer. Will accept inputs from a DAC if you do decide to run one of those.

In a proper blind test? like someone else doing the cable switching? Or blind as in you yourself switching cables? Just curious.
I'm currently running the Phasure NOS1 usb and it's a great sounding unit, best I've ever had for sure. I also have the AQ dragonfly, wonderful little device! I've not done a true blind test, as in someone pulling the strings but do really love the sound. I also have it connected to my HT system. It beats the snot out of the sabers in the 95 but the sabers have their own strengths. I was looking at the DAC-2 when I bought my Wyred 500 x 7 amps for my living room, but went another direction. They make great gear.

build some miniOnkens and add a sub and be done with it. The biggest problem with "high end" speakers at a computer is that you are sitting so close to the speakers that it is hard to really get anything I would consider much of a soundstage as it sounds like audio coming from seperate sources more than anything. The only fix for this is if you have the speakers on the other side of your room aimed at your seating where the computer is located....And then there are other potential problems for that....let alone running cables across your room...

Which is exactly why I recommended KEF. There is no lobing or other issues associated with a typical nearfield setup. You still have a nice soundstage and imaging considering the environment. Tannoy would also be a good choice. If you were to go the DIY route, SEAS has a few different coax drivers and Pioneer's high end in wall speakers can be taken apart and made into something nice too.

Ah, yes but coax can still be expensive and u have a crossover to deal with. I mean to go with a foster ff85wk or mark audio chr-70. Make a very simple buil and just use the xo in a sub with a plate amp..... Preferably a sub that can be crossed at 100 and maybe even up to 150 depending on listening tastes.

im confused with nearfield speakers, what makes them a nearfield vs. a bookshelf speaker.
