A simple question. I buy mine based on a balance between the two. If I am looking for say a new monitor, I'll write specs down that I want. I will then gather a list of monitors that meet this criteria, and then pick the best looking monitor.

What about you?

Depends on what it is, some products (like a case) have obvious asthetic requirements, while other products (a dvd drive) don't matter as much so it varies how much I care about looks. Performance/value almost always trumps though, so unless its butt ugly, I will usually buy it if its the best price for what I need/it can do.

Similar to you. If i'm going to be looking and using it on a daily occurrence, then it's going to have be aesthetically pleasing, however it could look the best out of everything, yet if it fails to function then it's completely pointless. I would definitely rather have functionality over looks any day of the week. Looks should be secondary to functionality - i think we've gotten away from this nowadays with some products, particularly 'gamer oriented' products..

If only only they sold CPUs where the IHS was anodized aluminum and had cool designs engraved on the surface. Like a cute bunny murdering a bloody turtle, to show how fast it really is. Even if it performed like a Pentium 4 I'd still toss out my SB-E rig and get one.

So where else do you suggest I post this? That's the problem with OCN, it's narrowed down far too much.

Functionality is far more important than looks to me.. i would rather have a great product that performs well for me last years and look like oil slicked poop, then one that is crap and burns right out on me for some odd reason.

I buy on functionality first, but if I am deciding between two things which are too close to call, I will chose the nicer looking one. I also just won't put anything in my system that will outright clash with everything else.

Precisely. I don't give a crap what it looks like, if it's purpose isn't served 100% I've just wasted money. After functionality is well established, then it's time to consider, "hmm what does this piece say to me when I walk in the room".
