2.53 GHz Northwood heat problems

Thread Starter
i recently got all my new parts delivered and rebuilt my old HP 753n into a semi-decent gaming rig.

All the specs are below in sig.

the cpu is cooled by the stock Intel HSF.
there are 2 80mm case fans , one in back blowing out and one in front of case pulling air in. Also have one 80mm PCI Slot fan pulling air in from the lower back of case and blowing up over agp card.

I ran RegCleaner today and noticed that my max temp jumped up to 58c with cpu load at 100% for about 5 mins.

I ordered a Gigabyte G-Power BL cooler and some AS Ceramique grease, it should arrive today. Would this cooler help to drop my temps and possibly allow me to OC on my new ASrock mobo?

and can someone explain how the heatpipe thing works if the pipes are set horizontal? shouldnt they be veritcal to allow the hot vapor to rise?

Well a New Cooler in generall should help. That Cooler you have bought should Cool that Chip pretty well considering that you have some case airflow. However I would reccomend that you use Arctic silver 5 as It may perform better than its Ceramique counterpart.

As far as Oci'ing is concerend even if your temps are good you will have to wait and see how far that motherboard will let you go as ASROCK arnt known for the best overclocks .

thanks for the reply.
i have the cooler mounted and applied the AS-C. the BIOS tells me the cpu is at 37c after running idle on the bios menu for 5 mins.
when i reboot and windoze loads and speedfan pops up it says the cpu temp is 62c ...........

seems my temps went way up by what speedfan tells me, but when i reboot again the bios says 37c again..........

my last question is, should the heatpipes be mounted on top of the cooler with theC shape of pipes like this >"n", when installed or should the heatpipes be on the bottom with the "c" shape of the pipes pointed up like a "u".

i have them installed in the "n" position......not sure how heatpipes work but maybe i got it installed upside down?
