Possible network issue? Windows 8 can't get apps from store and more

Thread Starter
I have this odd issue where I can't download any apps from the Windows 8 store and I can't sync my mail through the Metro Mail app. ( I think that's all the problems right now)

I do have an internet connection because I can browse the web, play games that require an internet connection so the issue seems to be isolated to the Metro apps. I have tried disabling the firewall - no luck, I've tried switching ethernet ports - no difference and I've tried turning off programs that I think might be causing it but still nothing.

Any ideas?

I couldn't get my mail app to work or my finance app to update. Probably server issues at Microsoft since we're still only within a day of Windows 8 release. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

The problem could be with networking on your computer or with network beyond your computer.

To start we can try to ping the download server from your PC. I ran a quick download of Cut the Rope and snooped the traffic to see what the server IP was:

And the result:
Code:
107.14.43.170

Of course with you being in the UK the download server may be different, but we can try this anyway.

Now you open a command prompt and ping that IP:
Code:
ping -n 3 107.14.43.170

You should get a result similar to that.

Check the results of the ping, if it doesn't go through and your using a router I would try connecting the computer directly to the modem and retesting. If that fails then post what you get and we can try running a trace route.
BAM!

My mail app works fine in pro as did in the preview but I installed a free wallpaper app from the store and that does not work yet

I ran a ping test on that IP and it works nicely. so that must mean the store is using another server closer to the UK. What are you using to snoop on the connection?

Nevermind... It appears that the reason I couldn't install apps was because I didn't have a payment method on my account (unless that was just a coincidence?)

A branded version of cFosSpeed that goes with my ASRock motherboard.

I haven't setup a payment method, yet can still download the free apps. Did you try the free apps?
