1680 resolution, Phenoms, bottlenecks

So, my monitor is 1680x1050. I have an eVga 9800GT 1gb that I got for free. I'm pretty happy with it. I have a pretty meager Lenovo Tilapia CRB motherboard, with an AMD Phenom II X4 945 coming in the mail. I was limited to this CPU because of the 95watt limit on the board and the C2 stepping only working. The board currently has a X2 215 in it, and based on reviews, the Phenom should be a major step. However still need to go to x64 version of windows to take advantage of the chip.

So, a few questions. In looking for new video cards and seeing how my max resolution is 1680, couldn't I see some great results with even the low-midrange cards since they will be running in lower resolutions than what they're capable of? I don't play a whole lot of super current games, I just don't have the time. However I'm heading towards the end of Black Mesa now and have the FakeFactory mod next in line.

My RAM and x32 OS will bottleneck the CPU, but is the 9800GT a good pairing for this Phenom CPU? I am impressed with the 9800 as it is definitely an improvement over the 7900 GTO I used to have.

I am upgrading kind of in pieces here. The Phenom was ordered for $80. Also somewhat waiting on what the new FX chips will do pricewise in the next few months and if the AM3+ boards will drop a little in price. Cyber Monday, and all that.

op phenom ii x4 945 (3.0 Ghz) is a decent cpu. the 9800gt is too old. get a better GPU. get the HD 7850 2GB. its a good card for 1680 x 1050. you can use the 9800 gt as a physx card or just sell it.

For using a card for Physx, does it matter if the extra PCIE slot is full 16x or not really?

Any brand suggestions for the 7850? NewEgg has the Sapphire version as best rated.

I can't be bothered with overclocking anymore. I don't have the time and when I do, I want to be playing a game not trying to eke out 20 more FPS, which my monitor can't show anyway. So whether a card has good OC ability or not doesn't really come into play for me anymore.
