I bought it yesterday and installed today (I couldn't say no to £25), so far I would have say the negativity it got from a lot of people is unfounded IMO.

It is unfounded and all surrounds the start menu. I love it, I immediately un-install the useless apps other than mail and music and vital ones and pin all my programmes in sections. On press of the windows key and one click and thats it. Its a great os. Much cleaner in terms of system use/tray and for virus, defender runs in stealth.

for the gamers, there's zero to none difference. Tom's just tested win7 vs win8 performance-there's almost no difference, 1-2fps here and there although win8 showed a rather serious problem in the Sleeping Dogs.....soooo i'm happy with my ultimate x64 and i'll stick to my old strategy-get every second windows. been using the legendary 98, skipped 2000/Me crap, enjoyed XP, skipped Vista, now on 7, will skip 8...

There's things to do outside of the computer other than gaming.

If you don't even have a SSD, having Windows 8 itself still significantly lower boot times and shut down times. With a SSD, it's even faster. Either way it's a win-win, just not a priority for "gamers" but eventually it will be when the new DirectX is utilized.

There is one thing I don't get about Win 8. I wanted to buy it and chose to upgrade from the release preview. After the download was complete, I decided I want to do a clean install since I got my Samsung 830 today. When I activated, it seemed to have worked and installed just fine. But in the system properties it said that no Product ID was found. So I ran slui to check what was wrong, and it says that I have a upgrade key. Does this mean I can't do a clean install?

I have it, after some headaches with an attempt to do the upgrade, I'm having no issues with a clean install. I've even uninstalled Start8 to run Metro on a secondary monitor. The Windows key is now my new best friend wink.gif

I'm trying to use it... AND HATING It.

I installed Chrome, and it put a shortcut on the desktop and metro interface. How nice. Too bad they don't go the to the same instance of chrome. What is that you say? Well, they don't share bookmarks, extensions, history... anything. Almost like... Windows 7 is just being virtualized inside windows 8.

I bought it and installed it on my new 3930k rig... I am not liking it right now but maybe I will get used to it.

I run eyefinity and going to the corners to do things is a pain. I am considering going back to 7 on this rig and put 8 on something else.

If you login to your Google account, you'll have your bookmarks on both.
