I was able to pick up Windows 8 Pro for less than $20, but I can't even install it. It keeps locking up randomly during setup. Good thing I made a full backup of my system before I attempted the upgrade rolleyes.gif

What are you having trouble with? What part does it lock up on ?
I installed it on my uber-netbook, I can't say I actaully like it. It does seem to boot, resume, and shutdown slightly faster. The entire MetroUI doesnt interest me at all, and so far I'm just clicking thru it to desktop immediately. I've had a few issues with not being able to delete Windows.old and trying to use non-MS email accounts with Skydrive/Store/ect. I suspect the account issues I'm having are due to upgrading (instead of clean install) and it's finding settings for other MS Live accounts used on the computer previously.

This is possible using Disk Cleanup. Click "Clean up System files" and tick "Previous Windows installations." thumb.gif

If you don't even have a SSD, having Windows 8 itself still significantly lower boot times and shut down times. With a SSD, it's even faster. Either way it's a win-win, just not a priority for "gamers" but eventually it will be when the new DirectX is utilized.
I might reboot my computer once a month, and the only time I shut it down completely is if I'm going to be out of town for a few days or I'm adding/upgrading hardware.

So far, I've seen nothing compelling to make me interested in switching to Win8. I usually wait a year or two to adopt new Windows versions anyway, until all the bugs are worked out. Except for Vista, which I skipped entirely.

I've been running it since the developer preview. Its much faster and lighter then Windows 7. People are probably going to be bridge dwellers for me saying so, but Windows 7 has all of Vista's bulk. Windows 8 finally removed it, the operating system doesn't feel so heavy anymore. To give you an understanding of what I mean by "heavy", moving from Vista/7 to 8 is like moving back to a Windows XP. Really responsive and snappy, because quite a bit of the interface is accelerated (fonts, images, shapes are all hardware accelerated in Windows 8). If you can wrap your head around the Metro interface, then chances are you will enjoy it. You can find more information and tweaks in the fan club linked in my signature.
