-Unable to delete Windows.old due to permissions settings. I tried EVERY trick in the book short of sledgehammering my hard drive. mad.gif takeown /f, icacls, logging in as the hidden administrator account, changing the owner, EVERYTHING. I went to delete it while logged in as the admin account, and it said "failed to delete. You need permission from Administrator to do that". I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR YOU FIEND!!! mad.gifmad.gifsozo.gif (The issue turns out that I needed permissions from my Windows 7 admin account to kill it which doesn't exist anymore. frown.gif Windows.old is the only place this is the case and permissions work the way they're supposed to elsewhere. thumb.gif thanks to LastBucsfan for the help!)

-The mail app. Where is the search feature? It's driving me crazy because I need to search through my emails and I know it has it, but I just can't find it.

-The music app. Same thing. Where is the search feature??
Thanks to tictoc for helping me out with this. biggrin.gif

My positive points:

-On my Vizio ultrabook, I have a shutdown time of literally less than one second. I'm serious. From button click to OFF (not just monitor off, but full off) it takes about .75 seconds.

-Booting up takes 7 seconds from button push to the end of POST, then 5 seconds to load Windows 8. Go Intel Rapid Start! wheee.gif

It's actually going into a mini-hibernation and not full shutdown. Other than that. I'm liking it. You should also look at transfer speeds between HDDs/SSDs. Faster on W8.

Haven't experienced this yet... but I do A LOT of transferring and backing up between HDDs so this is good news.

I like some of the improvements that Windows 8 has brought, but it's introduced a lot of annoying things in, just like 7 did, when I switched from XP.
The good:
better search feature
fixed the mouse movement algorithm
less bloated than 7
put a menu in place of the start menu that is much more helpful
Square corners instead of rounded ones

the mediocre:
same impossible to navigate control panel
same annoying networking menu system
same annoying desktop themes system
same level of performance in applications
task manage is pretty much the same

The bad:
touch gestures are annoying to do with a mouse
only one window at a time with metro
metro is overall useless for desktop users
ribbon toolbars are idiotic and Microsoft needs to put an option to disable them
The area that you need to click to access the metro ui and the start menu replacement is too small
No differentiation between apps and normal programs in the search menu
BSODs don't provide nearly as much information now
Task manager does not show cpu usage per core anymore (apparently you can get it to display)

Oh, I thought there would be a way to fix that.

HATE: There is too much disconnect between the Metro UI and the standard desktop environment. Traditional desktop applications still appear on the taskbar when open, but for Metro apps you have to bump the top left corner to see whats open. When I bump the bottom right corner and click Settings I have Control Panel, but I also have PC Settings in the bottom right. PC Settings appears to be a simplified Control Panel without all the options. Why do we need two places to go for settings? Metro Apps in general are over-simplified. I would not mind the simplified look if there was a way to access additional options. For example, the new Skype app does not have a login screen anymore. My fiance also uses Skype to call her mother in Italy with a separate login. With the new app I can't have two users in the same Skype app, so now I'm going to have install the old Skype app. Let's be honest here, my fiance is no power user, but this app has been so simplified it's missing features she even needs. The full page app idea is also too simplified. I can multitask quickly with Windows 8, but by using traditional style applications still..
I'm sticking with Windows 8 because of the improved performance and the ability to still use the traditional desktop environment, but I really hope Microsoft realizes that "tablet style" apps are not the best solution for a PC.

Use Pokki (start menu) and shortcuts. Found it to be much MUCH easier that way.

If you got to the settings section of Pokki, it has everything.

You can switch between Metro & desktop apps/programs with Alt Tab, or point your mouse the the top left corner of the screen and move down.
