i5-2500K Upgrade - 3770K or 2700K?

Thread Starter
Ok, guys, I've had my 2500K for sometime, and it's worked faultlessly.. running it @ 4.6Ghz as my daily driver (with the H100 on Cougar fans).

Now, I'm looking at the feasibility of a possible upgrade without going bonkers ..

So, I'm looking at either the 2700K or the 3770K.. Price wise they're almost identical, give / take a few quids ..

In terms of performance, will I see any significant difference with either of the two ?

I have the P8Z68-v Pro/Gen3 board updated to the latest BIOS so supports the 22nm chips like the 3770K.

What's the best CPU upgrade option (if any) between the above ones? Should I even be looking at these options, without upgrading my Mobo?

Unless you want hyperthreading stick with the 2500k, you wouldnt notice a difference probably at all. depends what you use it for but if you have no use for hyperthreading its not much of an upgrade especially for what you are gonna pay.

The 3770K will seem to run the equivalent of ~300MHz faster than the 2700K in some applications assuming equal clock speed. Also the 2700K might be able to clock higher depending on your cooling, but they'll be in the same ballpark.

If you do decide to go for it I don't see any reason to upgrade your mobo, so I would keep that.

I second this.

Unless you're doing heavily threaded tasks like video editing or rendering, there really isn't any reason to upgrade. What is the purpose of the upgrade?

Well... Just getting bored of the status quo smile.gif and was looking at a few upgrades..
Hmmm gpu upgrade looks a better option I agree... I don't game a lot, but do a lot of video editing and android development.
What gpu would you suggest? I without going bonkers...

7950's are pretty good, I wish I had one... They're really good performance per dollar, unless you need cuda or physx, or 3D then it's probably a really good choice.
