So I used to have a 980x overclocked to 4.0ghz. It ran a 24 pass superpi32m with a time of 9min 37seconds. I tested my new PC with the Xeon e3-1280v2 and it was over a minute faster at 8min 29 sec.
I know the Xeon will turboboost a single core to 4.0ghz, so is it just using 1 thread and the improvement is just down to a more modern architecture?
I am using different memory with the same speed and timings except the new one is command rate 1 vs 2 on the 980 rig.
