win server 2008 r2 *64bit set up questions

Here is a pic of my vmware server i have it set to use 2 out of my 4 threads/ cores and gave it 8gb of ram.

now my questions is my friend is in Portland Oregon and i would like to set up a way for him to connect to my computer and share file between us. we used yahoo instant message for it but too slow and if the fie dont complete you have to start again from the beginning.

to sum it up we need a way to use my hard drives for his back up and sharing files between us & we can both access them over the web or through a program.
its really hard for me to explain it

what can i do to mke this happen?

so if i used filezilla do i use the server version of it and he would use the client version and delete win server2008 r2?
how would i set this up for him to connect remember he is in Oregon?

Guides! Cause that sounds like a good safe plan.

Doesn't Filezilla support SFTP? Shouldn't that be fine?

pfSense no longer recommends PPTP VPN since it has been compromised.
