At this point, is gnex still worth getting?

I plan on getting 2 for me and my gf this holiday. I can practically get 2 for the price of a gs3(im on a tight budget). This would be my first android device. Ive heard a lot of good things about jelly bean and i think this would be the perfect time to test the waters. My only concern is the specs. Will it be enough to provide a "project butter" experience? Coming from a windows phone, im pretty critical about the fluidity of the interface.

Hope to hear your thoughts. thumb.gif

Running cm10 on mine and the experience could not be better. Gaining root isn't for everyone but with the tools available its been made very simple. Stock job just didn't do it for me, it would jitter at times even in Chrome.

If you are looking to get the best experience you will have to tweak it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I cant believe how cheap this phone is right now considering its decent specs and being a "nexus" device. Im actually pretty excited. thumb.gif

edit: Hi there Miki. It seems your switch to the android camp was a success. biggrin.gif Did you install a custom rom on yours? o.O

If ext removable memory is something you are interested in, then NO. Otherwise I hear its a good phone, but to me not enough of a difference to ditch my S2's. If not opposed to used, check out xda-developers.com forums.

The Galaxy Nexus will still be good for at least the next year or two and keep in mind that as soon as Google develops a new version of Android, you'll get a source version first which will always keep your modding community making more custom version for you.

Also, if you're under contract, they are going for like $50 from Verizon and Sprint. If you're doing pre-paid, you can't go wrong with eBay. I'm not sure how much they are going for now but hopefully you can still get brand new ones for less than $300 each since they are $350 each from Google.

I got my Nexus because I got sick of waiting 10,000 (literal) years for a ROM to come out for my old device, which would then never move past alpha bugginess. I ordered it from the Egg and it's the best $380 I've ever spent on a phone. Because it's a Nexus it has a huge(!) selection of ROMs to choose from that are actually complete and very functional, especially the AOSP ones. I've got 4.1.2 on mine now and the smoothness is fantastic.

Definitely grab one, you won't regret it.

If it's not too late, you may want to wait for the Nexus 4... was just announced today with a VERY good price point.

Man, they made it harder for me to decide. mad.gif I just saw the news and its starting at 299 for the 8gb and 350 for the 16gb! I plan to buy it in hongkong (my brother lives there and we'll be spending christmas with him) and hopefully they dont price gouge it. The 8gb model is gonna be a bang for the buck for my gf since she's really not that heavy on storage. Then there's the possibility of gnex prices hitting rock bottom once the Nex4 comes out. Damn you google and your awesome prices! mad.gif

At this point, now that everything's confirmed, I'd say it's DEFINITELY worth waiting. I'd love a Nexus 4, but it won't be making its way to Verizon, which I'm still locked to for another year. If you can, try out each phone before you make your decision, then weigh your opinion and preferences against any price difference.
