550w enough for a 7950

Thread Starter
I am building a new rig with these specs:

I3 3220
8GB DDR3
Asrock Z77 Pro3
SSD
7950 Gigabyte WF3

Will a XFX 550w Pro (44A on +12 Line) handle this with no problems, even with the VGA oced?
i would not be comfortable with 550W with those specs. i would go for a 600 or a 650. especially if you are overclocking that card

That PSU would be overkill. U can even run it on a rosewill capstone 450.

They are using an overclocked i7 also. 397 watt full system load.

It should easily be enough. Check this thread on real world power usage results from other OCN members to give you an idea. Its pretty surprising how little some builds actually need.

It's more than enough for a single 7950, even if you oc it, but it must be a quality PSU.

i3's TDP is as low as they go nowadays and the 7950, even OC'd, shouldn't give you any issues with 550w PSU.

No problems there XFX 550 Pro is built by Seasonic using the S12II plataform it has 44A so is pretty good. If the 550w are enough why should i get a 650 just to spent money i guess... Thanks for the info guys [[[]]]
Definitely. But my personal preference would be 650w, It's just me lol, I just prefer to be safe than sorry.

It could be because there wasn't a 550 model in your price range that had the features you desired while a different 650 model did. Also more headroom if you wanted to go multi-GPU setup.
