First build

Hello! This being my very first post here, so i do apologize in advance if this is wrong section for this thread. biggrin.gif

But as the title says im about to build my first rig, and wanted to make sure that i hadn't forgotten anything / everything is compatible. (I left the DVD drive out purpously as it wont be needed much after OS installation, and it wouldnt fit with the H100 to begin with.)

I was thinking about something like this: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

A couple of questions arised which i'd like to clear out before ordering the parts

1. Will i be able to fit the 7970 lightning in there as i will be having the 230mm fan in the front? The 7970 is 305mm long according to MSI and the 230mm fan is 30mm thick and the case is 359mm long. On paper it fits, but are there any Prodigy owners around that could confirms this?

2. How i will be able to connect the 2 case fans, the 230mm and the 120 on the back, as the mobo only has 2 fan connectors; one for the CPU fan and another for chassis fan. So would it be safe just to connect both fans with Y-cable to the chassis fan connector? Also, would i then be able to control the fans via bios or asrock utility of some description?

3. This may be a dumb question but, it only states on Corsair website that these vengeanse rams in particular are optimized for Sandy Bridge, so would it be safe to assume that they'll do perfectly fine with Ivy Bridge?

Thats about it, and thanks in advance thumb.gif

You could use a y connector for the fans, but make sure the extra amperage wont harm your motherboard.
Vengeance RAM will do fine.

I just realized that the Silverstone Strider 700W has only 3 x 6pin PCI-E and 1 x PCI-E 6+2 pin connectors, whereas the 7970 needs 2 x 6+2 pin connectors. Damnit, i really would've preferred the silverstone psu, because it was only 140mm in lenght..

EDIT: perhaps just getting a couple of 6-pin to 8-pin adapters would do the job?

Problem solved. I'll be going for the Silverstone Strider 650W Gold instead, which is fully modular while still being only 140mm in length. smile.gif

Im still wondering how much headroom i'll be left with the 7970 in there.
