The Issue:
Graphics card works just fine but when you bring the computer back from SLEEP mode: This happens on the DVI port:
#1

Alright, here's the issue. MY screen BUGS out ONLY after I bring the card back from sleep mode. I've tried reseating the card in the PCI slot. But basically what happens is when I move my mouse and type, the lines in a screen start to bug out, like they almost look broken. I was able to get a picture of the issue. If you look where the browser tabs are, on the text where there's newegg and the GTX670 OCN page, the text in the middle is broken. And it does this only when I move my mouse and its usually around the area that I have the mouse in.

I'm on the 310.33 beta drivers and I'll work on reinstalling different drivers to see if that is the issue.

This happens ONLY when I bring it back from sleep mode, and then the card clocks down to its power saving 2D clocks. When its in 3D clock mode, its completely fine. But honestly, I feel like this has to do something with corrupt memory if its not somehow the drivers or PCI slot seat. Gosh it almost looks like the add on the right of this page, the AMD add, is like artifacting on the red with white little dots right on the edge of it....

The HDMI port when brought back from sleep mode flickers and does not display a good signal. It is an unusable port that flickers my screen like crazy when brought back from sleep mode. Obviously something is wrong with the card when brought back from sleep mode. I'm not sure if it is just a faulty card or corrupt bios but it only does this when brought back from sleep mode as well.
I've tested this on 3 different screens with 2 different HDMI cords....

The RMA Process:
Day 1: Called 10/29/2012 to issue RMA
Called Asus on 10/29/2012. Issued an RMA request and started the process. Also requested an ARS service, Advanced Replacement Service. This issues a new card before I send in my faulty card. I have to fill out credit card papers and that was completed on 11/5/2012. I have yet to hear back from ASUS about the shipping. I selected 2-day air shipping on the new card as well.
Day 8: ARS Papers sent 11/5/2012
Day 11: Replacement Card issued 11/8/12
2 day shipping and it still won't be here till Monday
Day 15: Replacement Card received 11/12/2012

I would contact asus and see if they would warranty it first. being as you bought it open box you obviously got a deal so if you have to RMA it then you will probably have to pay out of pocket to get an equivalent.

regardless though, its within the standard warranty period, i would contact asus first about warranty since it will cost you less out of pocket in the end with shipping and all.

According to the RMA list found here: http://www.service.asus.com/#!Graphics Card Warranty/c26b
I should be able to RMA the card. Heck I'll let them put a hold on my account for fast RMA. I just want a working card, and this definitely fails the "operating under normal and proper use"

Another picture of the issue:

Look at the red edges! TERRIBLE right?!

Edit: Contacted Asus tech support twice. The card's warranty is already registered but I registered the card to me. So maybe if I explain the open box situation Asus will be kind enough to pull through for me and RMA it through the manufacturer. I also noticed there are horizontal lines that seem to look like faded colors that only appear when in 3D clocks now. The card is faulty and I believe it has something to do with the memory controller or memory chips... It seems to be faulting in 3D clocks and it's faulting in 2D clocks horribly after bring it back from sleep mode. I JUST tested it in another computer and it has the exact same issue, so I know its the card.

Ok little bump and update on this.

Started the RMA process. I have a service ticket but no RMA # yet....will I get an RMA # soon? I followed the steps the rep told me to go through with registering for the RMA process.
When I send the card to Asus, I think I'm going to go through UPS. I don't really trust USPS and I know UPS is wayy faster.

I'm hoping I have a good customer experience with this... The thread will tell the tale.

I wonder what "repaired" means... I just want a card that doesn't artifact in 2D clocks that I can sleep my computer with and not have to worry about it....

Did you have an option to rush process? I heard EVGA can do an Advanced RMA service that puts a hold on your credit or debit card...

score. advance rma is awesome when available simple for the less downtime. i love asus products, but being a largely asian based company sometimes the customer service side lacks. i deal with china and such a lot at my second job and they are terrible. if you get the wrong order or bad parts its pretty much worthless to send back and get it replaced, if they will even do that.

but i'm anxious to see how they handle the warranty!

Well I'm now waiting for them to get back with me to see if they have any 670's in stock. If they don't, I'll probably cancel my RMA and just return it to newegg for a full refund. The card is defective and last thing I want to do is send it in to Asus, them not be able to "fix" it and send it back...

At this point too, after all shipping is said and done, its going to be around the same cost of a new 670...fail for open box.

EDIT: ALSO, to add to the long list of problems with this card. The HDMI out does not even work. The screen flickers like crazy!

Little bump on this:

Called Asus this afternoon. No luck on finding a card in stock to replace mine with for the advanced RMA. They will check different warehouses. I'll call tonight and if nothing comes up with getting an advanced RMA by the end of this week I'm going to return the card to Newegg as defective and cancel my RMA with asus.

I might lean toward an EVGA FTW if my experience is bad with ASUS. Quite disappointed. The card has great cooling and looks great, just doesn't work.

Got notification today that they have shipped my replacement GTX670. We'll see how it performs once it gets here.

If its UPS ground, depending where its being sent from. I'd imagine I won't have it till mid-late next week.

Glad I'm getting a replacement. We'll see how it turns out.

sounds good. EVGA does have the best customer service i have ever heard of. I have heard people not like them because they got the string of bad luck with a couple bad cards and what not but never have i heard someone dislike them because of their customer service. the 670 ftw would defenitely be an excelent option imo, and being as you are rma'ing through asus, i presume if it's not up to par you can still send the rma'd card back to the egg as defective and go for the 670 ftw.

Well I called yesterday to get some info on my RMA status because I couldn't find it anymore. Apparently someone closed it. So its reopened and I have to wait till Monday now. I'll call after work on Monday. If no luck I'm canceling My RMA and returning the card. Asus once again fail.

Ok. Little bump. I called today, basically I wasn't expecting anything and basically was going to say, hey, cancel my RMA, I'm buying a different brand. But surprisingly they have a 670 in stock and they just sent the ARS email to the wrong email, how I dunno...but I filled out the information and send it in so hopefully they will process it tomorrow or Wednesday and get my new card out here. I put in 2 day air too, extra $20 but I need the card... I need something that works! ug...

I'm making an entirely custom VRM heatsink! It's MASSIVE! Stock VRM heatsink is ~3/8" tall, this heatsink is all aluminum fins, 1" tall, its massive. Also working on a bolt on bracket instead of the zipties for the water cooler. So hopefully the new DCII I get is a good overclocker and works right!

Why would you do that? The DirectCU line of these are are already looked upon as some of the coolest running cards you can get out side of the FROZR line. You are going to have to remove the stock heatsink to do that arent you? The only thing I think that will beat the already awesome cooling ability of the Direct Contact COPPER Heatpipe design is water cooling. And since a lot of GPU H2O Blocks cover the VRMs what would be the point? And why would you use aluminum heatsinks for something that has a Copper heatsink already? You are not going to see an increase in cooling ability. I think that you are making a mistake. And there are brakets out there on this site already in production for your water cooler. I assume that you are talking about a Corsair or Antec Closed Loop System cooler?

Check them out if you are dead set on doing this.

The VRM heatsink is only aluminum...

It's actually a pretty small heatsink... I've just got a bigger one. I just have to cut it to fit properly. The stock heatsink is pretty good. ~62C max. My modded closed loop watercooler maxes at 35C on the 670...so I'm bios modding the card when I get a working one. The memory are the things that actually need heatsinks, they get pretty darn hot compared to the VRM's....

It's all worth it, I need an extreme overclocking card so we'll see what I get...

Well. Got my replacement card today...

IT STILL DOES IT! I'm beginning to think this is a motherboard BIOS issue rather than something card related. I dunno why but it seems the HDMI flickers when brought back from sleep and also the DVI port fuzzes out like I said. On both card... There is a BIOS update for my motherboard so I'm not sure I want to update the bios for it or not yet... I could only guess that is what the only issue would be...

I'm returning the old card and just completing this RMA and calling it a day.

Good news is the new card is a darn good overclocker! I'm at 1254MHz sofar for overclocking and pushing it more! Just modded the card and now 39C is max @ 1254Mhz

you using the msi board? have you verified that the integrated graphics if any are shut off? also, it being an nvidia, there is a specific bios setting allowing the discrete gpu to render for the integrated using the integrated video out of the motherboard. i have the Asus Sabertooth Z77 and it has it, just can't recall the feature name atm and i'm at work so not able to reboot and look it up atm. will do it at home though and post.
