I'd also like to add that the cost of Mac's is higher because they use top binned parts.
I've had a white MacBook (revision 3,1) from late 2007, used every day and still going strong, so their quality is very high. I've also had an iPod touch from around then that still works great and an iPod video from even earlier that still works.
Now, I'm not an Apple supporter as such, I run many Windows rigs and predominantly use Linux now. I'm just saying in my experience they make quality products and in the long run are probably worth the money

I do wonder how they get their Chinese labor parts to last a bit longer. If only they wouldn't muck things up with locking it down I'd actually buy their stuff. Well...maybe.

Did OP ever state what he intended to do with this laptop?

i've NEVER heard that apple uses better binned parts before. In fact I searched for it, and couldn't find anything... Where have you heard/read that?

I won't give you specifics but you'll need nothing less than a 650m or 7750m if you want decent gaming without dropping a lot of settings. For the CPU a 2.4GHz i3 should be the minimal. The real questions left are what size/weight you're looking for. If you don't like OSX really there's no point in the Macs as you won't be happy.

Can't quote a link, I read it about 6 months ago.
But it was on a reputable site Gizmodo, CNET or Ars if I recall...
