Gigabyte 7950 OC question

Thread Starter
Alright well Ive been OCing my Gigabyte 7950 for the last few days and Im VERY impressed but I do have a question about voltages. I keep finding myself wanting to squeeze more and more out of this card lol. Its currently at 1200/1500 on 1.24V and my temps reach maybe 52C MAX in BF3 with everything maxed out. I hear lots of people saying dont go past 1.3V its dangerous yadayada. What I want to know is if it is really that dangerous if my temps are so bloody low? I know I can squeeze alot more out of this card but I dont want to ruin it. Im only running on air to, my case flow is excellent and the cooler on this card is amazing.

Got it 1200/1575 @ 1.25V and 54C MAX in Heaven. Can I push further or am I taking a risk by going much further with my voltages?

imo not worth it to push further. your core temps are very good. what is the vrm temps. the gigabyte card does not have vrm cooling. so be careful.keep vrm temps below 90c. use HWinfo32 to log VRM temps.

Temps are good at 60-62C max on the VRAM. After a little bit of usage my temps now sit around 52-54C on BF3 load. Like I stated, I have exceptionally good case airflow with very good cable management so everything is constantly getting cooler air. The Coolermaster 212 Evo push and pull setup I got really helps direct the hotter air out the back to.

i would back down on the mem personally i saw no improvements anywhere when i increased my mem speed's only my core clocks, i was more likely to artifact when i boosted my mem. i would say pull back on your mem and then try and boost your core some more. have you though about flashing the bios to the 7970 bios?

it should boost your base clock and voltage to that of a 7970.

Yea but why would I boost my base clock if Im already overclocked at 1200/1600? Am I not already overclocked to the performance of a 7970?

Sorry I dont know much about bios flashing. I dont see the difference between flashing the bios and overclocking.

overclocking manually is much better than flashing BIOS. yeah you are already above the default HD 7970 Ghz speeds. so don't bother with BIOS flash. enjoy the performance thumb.gif
