Flickering graphics with 5830's

Thread Starter
Hi all, first post in this area, I have 2 5830's crossfired on a first time build, pretty pleased do far as I am a complete noob. The 5830's were essentially given to me which is why I have used them (I am a poor student!) I am havinf a problem with a game I am playing called War-z, I am getting really annoying flickering on trees and distant scenery (close up seems ok), can anyone suggest what settings I may need to adjust to counter this?

Cheers biggrin.gif

Have you tried each of the cards individually? Are you on the latest drivers? Are they overheating? If you can answer those questions I might be able to help.

A lot of times with SLI/Crossfire, this can be caused by shadows.

Havent tried each individually, I downloaded the drivers a couple of days ago so I hope they are the latest and the cards seem to be running at 70 - 80 degrees while playing that game

I have just noticed that lots of the flickering is happening in shadowed areas although not all of them.....hmmmm.....

I have disabled crossfire and the flickering has stopped, so thanks for the heads-up there Powermonkey500, is this the only way to solve this problem tho? Seems a shame to waste the power of two cards for this issue

With no crossfire gpu temps reachinh 90 degrees now

I have had that problem before with 5770 crossfire setup, it turned out to be for me at least the crossfire bridge was going bad. I changed it out and it went away. The flickering your describing might be different than the issue I was having though so your mileage may vary, but it might be worth investigating.

Also make sure you have the newest drivers and newest game patch.
If you Google "(insert game here) crossfire flickering" usually someone will have found a fix/workaround for that particular game.

You should download MSI Afterburner and set a a custom fan profile. I suggest a 1/1 fan speed temperature ratio until 75-80C. That's when you want it at 100%
