HTPC Build - HiFi

Thread Starter
Need help/suggestions for parts, etc.

I'm looking to build an HTPC but, audio is very important to me.

I will be hooking this up to a DENON AVR-2113CI (Receiver) -> The video output from the receiver is hooked up to a JVC RS-55 LCOS.

Q1: What is the best way to hook up the audio? I'm assuming through HDMI and the graphics card but what graphics card to get? Or a sound card?

Q2: What is necessary to have it smoothly run 1080p video?

Requirements:
-Needs some sort of remote control
-TV tuner -> I've done some research but, I have no idea how an HD tuner would replace one provided by the cable company [The Box you 'rent']. At&T U-Verse.
-Blu-Ray Drive
-2 TB HD atleast, can be multiple HDs depending on how many the case can hold.
-Horizontal case similar to :
-OS is not needed.
-Suggestions for software is welcome.

Budget:
Preferred: ~$500
Max: ~$1000

Thanks,
y0mi

Optical cable is going to be the best way for your audio - as far as the GPU it depends on what CPU you get, if you get a decent APU (AMD) then you should be fine without needing a dedicated GPU, if you go Intel, you might want to go with a dedicated GPU for some of the features a dedicated GPU offers (such as 23.978 FPS)

APU is probably going to be the best way to go if you want to keep your budget down, as far as the rest of your parts and specifics, i'll let you pick that thumb.gif

I was under the impression the cable does not matter but what is delivering the audio.

Does a high end graphics card carry HiFi audio over HDMI vs soundcard.

From what I read, optical and hdmi do not differ in quality.
you will get full 7.1 over hdmi not optical.

you will not have any issues running hdmi thru your gpu. Im going to second the amd apu build path will keep cost down and will perform great.

i'm not sure of any tv tuners working with U Verse. i have the Silicon Dust line of tuners and they are not compatible with U Verse and i wasnt able to find one that was (i didnt really search to hard as i cancelled them soon after)

* nice projector btw what are you running screen wise

ive got an Espon 8350 with 100" ES screen setup and my movies over my htpc looks amazing

For screen I have been messing around with 120" DIY painted screens. More info: http://www.avsforum.com/t/929997/beginners-guide-to-simple-diy-painted-screens

Using this paint: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1311989/the-official-silver-fire-v-2-thread

Cheaper than just buying a screen biggrin.gif, Prefer stationary screen rather than 'roll-up', all depends on location though.

Assuming using AMD apu, I would just use the onboard video. Will look into different M-boards and see what they offer.
Thanks

PS: I've never built a system with AMD so I do not know what is good what is bad other than comparison, any suggestions for AMD apu?

I dont think he would need the A10 could easy do with the A8 or a dual core even

Everything else looks decent though depending on Op's likes / dislikes.

OP whats your budget?

Do the one you posted and you could easily drop the cpu to an a6 with no issues.
