Need help building comp asap

Thread Starter
well the scoop is my current comp is running like a dog right now.... locks up just trying to load a page on this site and the like. For some reason all cpu cycles are just toast ..... cannot even burn a dvdr anymore because the cpu is maxed out even before I try.

but anyway I need to order parts and build my comp asap so I can wipe this comp and load up my linux distro again (have windows right now).

this will be my first build...... so I'm tryin to fig. out what parts would be good with each other. I'll start with what I think I def want and go down from there.

CPU: Intel C2D E6600
MOBO: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
Case: CM Stacker ATX/BTX (dunno how great it is but seemed ok to me)
memory: dunno what would be the best for my comp (had read people lately talking about Crucial's 10th anniversary ram but dunno if thats the best or not for my setup)
power supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 EPS12V EPS12V 750W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, ULC, CE, CB, RoHS - Retail (read some builds and people have said good things about this psu)
vid: dunno exactly what would be best to get. nvidia or ati doesn't matter just want tv outs.
sounds card: Creative X-Fi Xtreme
burner: thinking of lite-on burner..... dunno if ide or atapa is what I need....http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106042
hdd: suggestions of deals would be appreciated.

monitor can be bought at a later time when a deal arrises.

my goal is to water cool my system and overclock within reason I guess 3ghz....or better whatever is reasonable for water cooling. I always leave my comp running 24/7 so I need reliability.
budgets about $2000. would like something that can be easily expanded at a later time.
any suggestions for changes or other equipment would be greatly appreciated...... hopefully I can get these parts ordered by next week.
Not that knowledgable about ide...sata... and the like.....
picked the mobo because of good reviews....
ram I don't know much about either just know the mobo info states: DDR2 Standard DDR2 800 ....... dunno if that means I have to use that kind only or what.

thanks.

is there a reason why you chose that over the other??
looked at specs and seem to be about the same but didn't know if there was something I was missing other than the wifi stuff.

but the rest is all cool thanks for the help.

note: didn't need hdtv out on the vid card..... meant s-vid out.

The P5B DH can do 8x and 8x on the PCIe slots while the P5B Deluxe can only do 16x and 4x, so crossfire or SLI is out of the picture for the P5B Deluxe

Other than that, they're pretty much the same

I messed up the link on the video card, this is what it's suppose to link too

do you think I should get the cheaper board and then wait for crossfire or sli to come about and be worth it then upgrade to a diff board and go for it??
I guess by the time I should upgrade to one of them the boards that support will be real cheap.....
CF/SLI is rarely worth it, I wouldn't bother upgrading to a board that supports it

ya I think I will get what he suggested and I'm gonna say forget the soundcard for right now....... gonna just get some cheap $30 one and take the nice one out of this comp and put the crappy one in it...... then later on when I feel like upgrading I'll get a better one.... right now I have a system hooked up to my sound card and I adjust everything pretty much on the system itself rarely do I use the controls in the software.

thanks for the help.... hopefully tomorrow I'll find where I can get the stuff the cheapest and start buying..... fig. there's cheaper places to get stuff then newegg, tigerdirect and them. Shopped around and got my mem. for this comp much cheaper else where.

ps. I'm not even gonna bother getting a new lcd..... got another monitor at my house and next week hopefully I'm gonna go out and get a plasma.... my boy at bestbuy said they're going to run a nice deal on blackfriday .... something like under a grand for a big screen so we'll see lol...... who knows what they mean by big screen.

Indeed.

90% of the parts boredom selected are pretty much the same I would've suggested, except for the RAM.

For RAM, I'd suggest the Xtreem DDR2 800 memory.
