Organizing computer room, need some ideas

Thread Starter
I have a small feeling that my room is causing a lot of my depression issues with it being so cluttered and unorganized and I have no idea where to even begin with organizing it. So I figured I'd just upload some pictures and see if you all couldn't help me try and figure out some organization to do and see if it doesn't motivate me to you know, actually clean the room and see if that helps with being less depressed. I guess I never really set the room up when we moved to this smaller house, which I probably should have.

The boxes have mainly empty computer parts boxes in them, which I'm trying to figure out why I can't actually get rid of them. Then those cheap $10 plastic crates are on the verge of falling apart and I really think every time I get someone to hold stuff it makes matters worse and they just start overflowing with random crap.

Help please, any tips/advice is welcome frown.gif

It really wouldn't kill you to just start with all those boxes, cables, gutted cases, cloths, random junk that are just laying around everywhere.

If you aren't absolutely sure you will use it some time soon, toss or sell it. If you're super attached or have a reason that you need to keep something you won't use, stash it in a closet / basement / attic.

This alone will give you a LOT more room, and will be visually less chaotic. From there you can worry about actually moving things around and organizing.

My basement used to look just like that. Just pick a corner and get started. You'll be done before you know it. thumb.gif

Hahaha!

  1. Start with the trash
  2. Then the laundry
  3. Make the bed
  4. Then clear out old boxes
  5. Packup

Or....set it on fire...

That's the problem though. I'm afraid if I toss some of the boxes that it'll come back to bite me later if I need something, etc. Which I know won't happen. And some of the boxes actually look rather nice to be honest. How would framing some and hanging them on the walls be, or would that just be rather tacky you think.

I wonder if there's anyone who would be interested in just buying all the old computers and parts I have for like $50 for everything lol.

You can collapse the boxes by either folding them or cutting them then you can stack them.

Boxes on the wall = tacky level over 9000.

If you're concerned because you think you will need the boxes for packing, you know you can just buy generic boxes for dirt cheap when that point comes.

Hang them on the wall? Hell no! lol

People sell random computer stuff all the time here. Just start a FS thread.

Just spend a day cleaning up the room and organize a section of the room at a time.Put all the pc parts in one box or store them in a attic. Also you could try to moving the furniture around to optimize the space.

edit: why do you have an empty rack sitting there?

I Recently did the same i threw a bunch of old pc boxes and stuff laying around that i was hoarding. Boxes from my 4 year old speakers, computer case i don't even have anymore. Only thing i kept are my monitor boxes I'm planning on moving in a year or so and finding a 27" monitor box not that easy. I myself don't like throwing pc related stuff away either but when it gets too much it's time to clean house

My rule of thumb was if it's been there for more then 2years and i haven't used or touched it, garbage. If there's any furniture you aren't using throw it out it's just dead weight and make the place look smaller. Your room is fairly big with a nice clean up it'll look very nice.

I'm just starting in a corner and going from there. I have a lot of old computer parts that still work, but I doubt anyone would buy them though because of how old they are. I got a few computers I could actually use as servers and what not, but they wouldn't be able to do much more than just run the server os though, learning experience I guess. Will post another set of pictures that show some kind of progress soon.
