Asus Maximus V Formula or ASRock Z77 OC Formula - Page 2

Whether you are an unrealized audiophile, or a gamer who has a pretty decent set of headphones, the onboard audio is on par with a high end sound card.

You know, this was actually proven to be otherwise (check results for SupremeFX CODEC only since ThunderFX version costs more). Some boards with ALC898 have better results.

?????????

I was able to test out the board's audio myself and I really had a hard time telling the difference between it and the asus 5.1 headphone amp card, and it was better than even some more pricey creative sound cards. In fact, I even have the supreme fx III and it is even pretty darn good.

I will withdraw my comment for now, and thank you for showing me this link. I know I have seen reviews where they say the complete opposite, so now I am kind of confused on which is true. I am going to do a bit of digging and see what I find.

Sound quality is subjective and tests done with RightMark Audio are depended on audio equipment IIRC. The best way to know is to compare directly with proper set of cans biggrin.gif. Or find some audiophile who tested them all redface.gif.

Hard to tell really, but by Techpowerup reviews my board gets better audio score than MVF...

Also if we really talk about audiophile level of sound quality, external DAC is a win because whatever engineers do they can't shield internal\dedicated sound cards from all static noise.

Yeah, when I put the word audiophile in there I meant like Uber entry level. It is one of those things where you don't realize what you like (best sound quality possible) until you HAVE something that is better to compare your current setup with. I am kind of tired (trying to stay up and make sure that hurricane sandy passes before I go to bed) so hopefully that makes sense.

And I can see where it is possible that my headphones messed up my experience of the sound quality. However, I have a HARD time believing the ratings are as bad as they are. Otherwise, why did asus bother to put the supreme fx iv on the board to begin with.

Now the real reason why anyone with the money should go with the asus board is if you like sound. So basically the onboard audio will wipe the floor with your current sound card, and since it is ON the mobo, you can save on space in your rig thumb.gif

Thank you again! I count every measure you add.
I do a lot of Music remastering for sports like "Figure Skating" and "Rhythmic Gymnastics"
and I still have my Creative Sound card if I need to hear every second of it.
So to be honest... on board sound is interesting for me if I play games, and only if I have to use headphones at night time smile.gif
Overclocking under water, and overclocking not less than 5Ghz , otherwise my old AMD FX at 4.8Ghz is still the best choice for me at the moment.
I do a lot of rendering and thousand uploads to my website every months, I need speed and stability.

After little research I decided to go with socket 2011, I got CPU and motherboard already.
Thank you everyone for the input.

As for ASRock Z77 OC Formula vs MVF, they are comparable, but Asus probably has more overclocking options in the BIOS.

Would love to see your results with all three boards...

I've only used the UD5H, and the MPower clocks better on slightly lower volts, have a UP5 on the way next week, I bet I can get it to clock even better on lower volts, that's by checking the real voltage from the boards themselves.
