Mechanical Keyboard Help - Page 3

Hmm I see, Just saw you mention Ducky and Vortex. I understand Max are high quality, are noppo as well? I don't know why in the world I can't find these 102 key board Noppoo's I'm only finding information about the mini, and nothing else really? Looking at the mechanical section on maxkeyboard.com all I'm seeing are reds and browns for key switches. Selecting the customize option doesn't give you an option to change the switch type either.

I'm sure I'm just missing something.

I'm not sure what to think about the quality of Max Keyboards...on one hand, people who buy them tend to report good experiences, but on the other hand, they're coming from an OEM with a bad reputation for quality. Also keep in mind that if you want it with MX Blue, you'll have to go for their "Full Customize" option rather than semi-custom, which gets quite expensive.

I'm also somewhat uncertain about Noppoo quality these days. My Noppoo (the non-backlit Tank model) seems like it has been built to withstand a nuclear war, but a lot of people seem to be having trouble with the Minis. The backlit full-size is the Pro, which I don't really know much about.

There's a Rosewill with MX Blue, number pad, and a backlight-- it's from a different, less well-tested OEM than the RK-9000s, but at the same time, it might also not have the RK-9000's USB connector issues. Something to consider, maybe?

Not quite sure why I couldn't find that Noppoo Pro, thanks for the link. Unfortuanatly I can't find any others for sale and red LED isn't for me.

I've heard good things about the Rosewill board, but never really considered it untill now. It seems like the "full" customize option for the Max keyboards you have to get a quote from them, correct?

Correct, it says to contact them for a quote. That said, they do give some guidelines for pricing...
Quote:
For full customization, you can select the following :
1. Choice of your Cherry Mechanical key switch (MX Blue, MX Brown, MX Red and MX Black)
2. Choice of your backlit LED color (Blue, Red, Green, Orange, White, Yellow)
3. Choice of your LED color on the 3 indicator on the top right corner

Current Pricing
Each Custom LED Color = +$2
Full Custom LED Color = Base price + $70 (104 key + 3 indicator)
Full Custom Keyswitch + LED color = Base price + $100 (104 keyswitch + 107 LEDs)

Example 1: I want a nighthawk X8 (default MX Brown switches + All blue LED color), and I want to have Cherry MX Black switch with Green LED. The price will be $144.99+ $100 = $244.99

Example 2: I want a nighthawk X9 (default MX Red switches + All red LED color), and I want to have all White and some Green on my WASD key. The price will be $149.99+ $70 = $219.99

You can also have us install custom keycap (fit on F-row & number row)
http://www.maxkeyboard.com/r4-1x1-cherry-mx-keycap-set.html

* Free 1 pack custom keycap 4 unit (Running Man, Pretty Women, Fire & Skull) - [Free to our Full Customize customer with 35 LEDs changes or more]

* Free Max Keyboard signature cable strap
* All original keycap will be included as well

* 50A O-Ring sound dampeners available for +$20 with installation.

Yikes that does get a little pricey. But it seems like it might be the only way to get exactly what I want, though the Ducky Shine II seems like a seriously good competitor for what I want. Is the LED levels on that thing anywhere near as good as the K90?

EDIT - How odd would it be for your hands/typing skills if you had all blue switches excpet had red switches on wasd, space, and the number row? That I can see being a really good route to save some money.

I think you should just stick with one switch per section of the board, like MX blues for 62 key section, browns/blacks/reds for other things that are not for typing. The LEDs on the Shine II are very bright at their brightest setting, and I mean VERY bright. The K90 might be a little bit dimmer. You could just wait until Ducky Shine IIs are back in stock, but if you can't you're kind of screwed. Soon Ducky will be releasing customisable keyboards like Max Keyboards do, but they will likely be just as pricey as the Max Keyboards.
