Acer Iconia W700

Thread Starter
I am really baffled that there is no info on this tablet.

The high end model has core i5, 4gb ram and a 128gb ssd, 11.6",1080p screen.
It lacks active digitizer, but for a price of 920 euros (1200 usd) *with a dock* it's a nice price compared to Samsungs top end model which packs the same specs plus a digitizer but at a whooping price of 1600 euros (2100 usd) which is almost twice the price.

I have preordered it and can't wait for it to arrive, but it's frustrating not to be able to read a review or at least unboxing, just some hands on done 4 weeks ago.
Weird that nobody got their hands on one of these :x

Nobody got one because for a tablet it's complete overkill, there is no justification for putting something like an i5 in one of those. An i3 would be passable which is their lower model I believe.

Having an SSD is again overkill, they should have stuck with standard NAND/flash memory or something. Which would have dropped the price considerably as well.

I mean seriously, for browsing Facebook and checking the news on the train this is a bit much. I mean you can't even get the normal google play or App Store games in there can you. So again you've got to wait for microsoft to build up their market which will take an age as well. Even if you wanted to play a half decent game on that device you've only got the HD4000 onboard GPU for it.

In all honesty, if you're gonna drop £900 on a device like that, go second and and get something like an ASUS gaming laptop off ebay.

Intel 4000 HD is fine for games.
It can run Battlefield 3 on 1080p with around 15 fps.
Not that I'm gonna play Battlefield 3 since I have no interest in that game, but it shows that it's powerful enough.
Games like Fallout New Vegas, Diablo 3, etc work just fine, which is something I might be interested in.

Why buy Atom cpu for the same price (I heard it lags when you draw on bigger canvas) when you can buy a core i5 which is few times faster?

I too have one on order and look forward to it, but have struggled to get a release date for here in the UK.

Dabs got back to me today - they say according to their supplier (which I assume is Acer) it will not be arriving till December?? Their original release date was 25/10/2012!

It would be nice for Acer to anounce the release officially to the public frown.gif

Unfortunately in Europa the cheap version uses 2365m 1.4 ghz with HD3000 making it a lot slower. It would fit my plans well if it was cheap. And it sorta is, relative to other similar tablets, but I meant relative to cheap notebooks  biggrin.gif.

It still beats the crap out of Atom tablets which seem to hover around its price (mostly about 50-150 euros more expensive).
It just annoys me that it doesn't have active digitizer support. I'd love to be able to take notes with a pen.
Although, I read there are pens out there that work just fine (like Jot Pro) on tablets without active digitizer, but it's still a mystery how they would work on Windows 8.

I have a Nokia N8 phone and have put a screen protector on. And it is a godsend not to have to worry about scratching the screen and finger marks. It has to be the thick type though, so there i quit a big loss of light a image quality, but i can connect to TV/monitor for that.

But i have decided i can wait a year to get a better model. Then maybe i can wait til autumn 2014 to upgrade video card (from GTX 580) . Or maybe not redface.gif.

And my retailer just changed the delivery of W700 core i5 from 14th of November to 14th of December. I'm not really interested in waiting so long.
The inferior core i3 is still set to release on 14th of November though.
