Did I waste money on getting a GTX 680 instead of a 7970? :| - Page 12

id say you would've been better with a 7970 and it's cheaper too. i have a gtx 680 but I do agree 7970's are just better this time around. the extra vram just makes it sweeter

Yeah unless you guys happen to be in the Philippines right now I don't think I'll be able to sell it to you lol. There's decent market here for GPUs though, I'd probably lose something like $80-$100 by selling and buying a new 7970. IDK I'll see if I decide to get a new card, thinking GTX 780/8970's are right around the corner anyway and I do plan on upgrading once they come out. Depending how much money I get and when, I MIGHT be able to get a second card for a 2-card Surround/Eyefinity setup but most probably I'll be doing single card surround/eyefinity till the next generation comes and upgrade to those.

Appreciate all the comments and links to reviews, reading them now. And I just want to mention how much time I waste on OCN/reading reviews when I should be working right now lol.

Edit: Seems like they are pretty close at 5760x1080 as well, I guess another factor is the brand of GTX 680 I got (or the bad luck?) since the overclocking capability quite frankly sucks. Who knows if I get a 7970 I might get a high overclocking one (or worse lol).

Thanks, that confirms my 15% suspicion...rolleyes.gif
Give it a thought, if you can sell for some money in fleabay it's a good move, you can even go straight to dual 7970's tongue.gif
post #117 of 170
Like others have said at higher res with more screens the 7970 would be nicer but with the money lost going from a 680 to a 7970 it's increase won't be worth it. On the vram issue most games play fine and only really run into problems with AA and mods but at that point you really need two GPUs to get really high frames with AA on anyways.

I'm not sure I would SLI a 670/680 in a few months when going surround over just buying a new GPU and cutting my losses, I think that with the 8970/8950 being rumored to be released by Feb I would hold on to the 680 for now then sell it then to upgrade to one of those.

Btw Ivan and ziggy, great deals right there!!! Would be hard to argue with those prices!!

I just finished testing, 3dmark11, heaven 3.0, sleeping dogs, metro, and batman 2. The 7970 is faster in every bench at the same clocks, 1300/7000. I can make a thread detailing the results. Btw, the 3930 was run with 4 cores only to keep it level, which was confirmed in cinebench. 4 core 3930@4.8ghz = 3820@4.8ghz.

Do you often just make up scenarios when you can't accept your argument is lost? Nowhere did anything I said or post involve more than a single card.

If a game runs great at 120fps then 120fps it is. If it runs great at 60fps then 60fps it is.

Fact is a great majority of games can be run more than 60fps with a single card. If there are 1 or 2 tough ones and a person chooses to buy an extra card just to run those then good for them. But that was not what we were discussing anyway.
