Okay guys I need some more help frown.gif

Prime95 seems to crash at a certian time everytime no matter what turbo ratio or vcore are set to. It will last about 3 hours and then crash at that point always. Ive never had this happen before with an overclock and Im pretty lost rigth now. Im trying it right now with C6 and C7 disabled. If that doesnt work Im just going to run it bone stock and see what happens? I talked to Asus tech support and there is no way for me to monitor VRM temps rolleyes.gif ugh.

I also read about adjusting vccsa and vtt voltage? Those are on auto rigth now.

Thanks I really appreciate the help.

If you are running offset with c6 and c7 enabled it could very well be the issue here.
Also, have you tested your ram? When you run at stock, just put BIOS back to it's default state (also, is your bios up to date? some of the most recent Asus bios will increase overall system stability).

Okay well its running right now with C6 and C7 disabled with an offset of .065v Works out to be 1.4v with LLC on high. First time Ive run with these states disabled.

Yeah if this doesnt work it Im thinking its memory or the vrm's. Is mem test a good way to check ram? It ran fine in my 3770k rig so it should be okay here? or does it change from CPU to CPU? I will reseat the mosfet waterblock once I get my new gpu in. Thanks for all your responses DMHernandez.

i have my bios settings on a USB stick at home.
I've been rock solid for about 2 months now, but I switch between my profiles a lot. Usually I'm on 4.5 profile, but I also use 4.1(all power savings off for very low DPC latency), 4.6 and 4.8 sometimes.

I'll post my 4.5Ghz profile for you to look at.. later on tonight. Its probably just a setting you missed or something, or RAM/IMC/VTT/VCCSA

1.48v is a @#$%ton of volts for 4.6, I'm positive it's not your cpu causing the issue.

As a rule of thumb, if this issue happens and you're troubleshooting, ISOLATE the issue. Which means take everything else out of the equation when you're focusing on CPu stability. When weird issues happen, run your ram at stock volts, stock timings but lower it to 1600Mhz. Maybe Corsair didn't bin it properly and might need a few more volts or something, but lets not worry about tweaking ram right now. That comes after the CPU is dialled in. I'll help you fix this one, don't worry. Cool?

In the meantime, make sure your VTT and VCCSA is set manually to 1.1v as a baseline (we can try and lower these later, after the CPU and memory is stable).

Disable ALL C-states (C1E, C3, C6, C7) as well as EIST for now and use manual voltage with LLC on high. What this does is the voltage you set in bios will be identical to your software voltage reading (ex 1.3v in bios = 1.3v in prime95 load).

C states can cause really weird issues sometimes.. lets try to isoltage just CPU speed and cpu voltage for now and we'll expand on that later. Don't get me wrong I love using C-states its just while im finding the baseline of my OC I don't want little bugs misdirecting me to raise voltage and waste time. For example at 4.5Ghz I am ROCK stable but as soon as I enable C7 it crashes at idle... consistently. Even with 0.05v over what I am stable at. But I can enable C7 at 4.7Ghz and higher with no issues whatsoever. That's just awkward.

Well it failed again with C6 and C7 disabled.

Im pretty sure Ive narrowed it down to the memory. Running prime with it set to 1600 instead of 1866. Theres really not much else it could be at this point. As it has not exhibited any of the usual CPU overclock failures.

If it cant run 1866 is this something I would need to send back to Corsair for or change something in the BIOS? Thanks everyone for help. Some great people here on OCN biggrin.gif

Ill report back!

I'll PM you my BIOS settings, just cross reference to make sure you didn't forget something. For example Intel Adaptive Thermal Monitor and Anti Surge support need to be disabled, ESPECIALLY that last one.

I have both those disabled. I ran mem test and everything ran fine. It also crashed under 1600mhz on the memory frown.gif

I finally saw it BSOD and it gave me error 0x00001E

I was watching prime95 the whole time and there wasnt a single error. Just a crash.

Hmm

This is fun, I kind of miss troubleshooting my 3930k =D

Alright let the fun begin.
Remember, when it's stable you're going to be REALLY happy for months to come.
Set it to stock and have fun with it once in a while, so you don't get frustrated OC'ing (I know I did, lol)

1e is usually IMC/memory but low vcore has triggered it a few times too

I'll list a few things I would try, one by one:
-I saw you disabled C6 and C7, please disable C3 as well. C3 and C6 are well known for causing issues with offset/EIST/C1E setups, but the problems usually only happen at idle. You can always enable it back later, if that's not the issue =)

-Stress test with 1 RAM stick. (note: Memtest is not very good at detecting memory instabilities on Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge and SB-E, believe me I used to use this tool religiously before) Personally I would buy a dirt cheap 16Gb quad channel set from a local store and return them after you diagnose with em.
-lower memory to 1333 for diagnosis
-stress test with CPU at 4Ghz 1.3v load (IMPOSSIBLE to get CPU BSOD at this setting, to eliminate that from the equation and confirm it's related to IMC or Mem)
-Reseat 24 pin and 8 pin mobo connectors, if they're not ziptied down too hard =P
-Try raising VTT/VCCSA simultaneously (to save time) but stay under 1.15v as reported by AI suite.

We'll get to the bottom of this!

you should go back to default and raise the multiplier until it is unstable and then add more voltage step by step

Yeah, pretty much this, and this:

Unless you happened to get a dud, or have already halfway burned it out.

4.6GHz @ 1.34V works for me with 68 °C (max) on air. Using ASUS P9X79 WS board, by the way.

Okay I really appreciate the help. I ran it last night at different settings and different BIOS and still got the 1E error. On a side note I was able to pass 15 runs of Intel burn test at high settings fine with the same settings that crashed in prime95?

I just got to work and its currentyly running at 4.4ghz and 1.44v with all the settings listed above.

C3-C7 Disabled. VCCSA raised to 1.15, All Digi + set to the right settings, mem at 1333mhz.

If that doesnt do it I have no idea what to do anymore frown.gif This whole thing is stressing me out to the max because I have sooo much money in it. If it doesnt work this time any ideas what I should do? New CPU? Motherboard?

Thanks

-Hammer
