So the MOSFET heatsinks arrived the other day and I installed them on the vrm. I'm still getting throttling, but it's not as bad. Does anyone have any tips on the overclock process?

I find that anything around 1.45v becomes too hot for the system as is, is there anyway I can reduce the main CPU voltage and still get a stable overclock? Can I play around with the NB voltage or the NB frequency. I can get 3.4 ghz without throttling at 1.4125v, but I'd love to get to 3.5.

Alright, so I finally finished my overclock.

This is the final, stable result with no throttling.

CPU: 3.42GHz - 33x multiplier, FSB: 103MHz (103.6 effective) 1.4125V
RAM: 1921Mhz
GPU (integrated 6550D): 788MHz 1.1625V
GPU (Discrete Gigabyte HD6670 DDR3) 900MHz Clock, 945MHz RAM Stock voltages (1.1V)

Benchmarks:

3D Mark 11: 3275 3D marks

PC Mark 7: 3686 PC Marks

I'm pretty pleased with the results, thanks for the advice everyone! I can't wait for steamroller to try out my next build tongue.gif

Stop where you are and try to get your voltage down to reduce power load. If you're throttling at all, that's a problem because you're spontaneously losing performance rather than gaining. "Not as bad" proves that your issue was VRM overheating... looks like you're limited by capacity in this setup. Oomph can come with a 4+1 phase but when you have 33% less feed into the CPU, it may come with a sacrifice.


Stable result isn't too shabby I guess, but I've seen more out of 3870ks than 3.4. I guess the combination of that and a GPU overclock was becoming a limit.
