Dominator platiunum wont overclock.

i have the Dominator platinum ram kit, 9-10-9-27 and i wont overclock at all past 1866. i bought this wanting to OC to 2133 but i cannot get it to happen. any advice? ive adjusted the timings into the 12 cas and nothing. wont hold it with no errors.

With RAM, you need to deal with DRAM volts (don't go over 1.65v) and your timings.

The IMC might be to blame. Not many Sandy Bridge CPUs will actually run 2x4Gb (let alone 4x4Gb) fully stable at DDR3-2133.
You can try raising the IO and System Agent voltages (don't know how they're called on eVGA) slightly, sometimes it helps.

sorry for the late reply been stuck in a nightmare sandy left behind. im on the jersey coast.

i have 2x8gb sticks of 1866 dominator platinum. tried timing up into the 12's on the cas and so on and nothing. kept getting errors ect. just was not stable. didnt up the voltages to much. got to 1.550 and didnt know about going any further.

What you should probably do is set your ram back to default, and lower your Dram voltage a little bit at a time. Raise your VCCIO voltage if you need to. Keep lowering your dram voltage until it simply won't post or it comes up with a crap ton of errors.

That margin that you lowered it by can be your new voltage surplus when you move up to a higher speed.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if you can't OC your ram at all. Most times you are lucky to get your ram to run at the rated speeds anyways.

If I were you with your chip and mobo, you might want to think about lowering the timings at 1866 and see if you can't push out some extra performance that way, but first we need to know what kind of voltage surplus you have at your disposal.

ill give it a shot tomorrow. vccio is up a little already. i will be changing motherboards, but my new board is stuck at ups due to the situation int his area. going to call them tomorrow and see if i can pick it up.

Didn't know your 1866s were actually 8Gb sticks. In such case, chances are they won't do 2133 regardless of IMC timings.

sadly corsair's ram doesnt seem to like to overclock from what i have seen on my last couple sets. had a set of dominators and vengence and neither would budge, no matter voltages or timings. the platnums just seem to be really fancy heatsinks and medium quality ram. i think you would have to get one of their super premium ones like 2600+ to have a really good set. sadly they are really over priced. i just bought some gskill 16gb kit (2x8gb) cas 10 2400mhz for most likely half what you paid for your platnums. i think the ram is terribly over priced and corsair has gone downhill in ram quality.

from what i saw when i tried to clock them im starting to beleive the more and more i read they will not clock up. seems to be alot of others also and not just me. oh well. the ram runs good at stock clocks and all, with BCLK up the ram has benched running 2000mhz before. but was just for a bench. oh well. looks like i may be buying some new ram sticks. thumb.gif
