[Build Log] "Pull Back" (Merlin SM8 build)

Pull Back

First, thanks for looking. When I started thinking about this build about a month ago I was planning to go all out like many of you here. Was going to spend 4k, 5k??? Who knows. I really had no budget. Well after sleeping on it I decided on a more reasonable build. Really I would be wasting a lot of the power that would go into such a high end build. Also I just don't have the free time to sleeve all may cables and do crazy mods. So I pulled back from an beastly build to what I think it a well performing modest high end build.

I was planning on doing my 1st WC loop but decided I didn't want to deal with the maintenance for now. Plus I won't be doing crazy OC'ing. I did however buy a big enough case that I can put in a loop later if I so desire.

Mostly these days I use my computer for editing photos of my family and anything else I find interesting. I also play BF3 and SC2 when I have time. Other than that, I do some work related stuff which isn't too high end. Sadly I use my iPad more than my desktop these days. But it's nice to have a solid computer when real work needs to get done.

I have already assembled the machine outside the case and will put it all together soon. I've taken plenty of pictures (too many) that I will post shortly.

Components:

Case: CaseLabs Merlin SM8
CPU: i73770k
Cooling: Corsair H100
PSU: Corsair AX750
MOBO: ASRock Z77 Extreme6
Boot SSD: Samy 830 256GB
Storage HD: 2x 1TB I pulled from my old system
GPU: EVGA GTX680 FTW LE (4gb)
Ram: 16gb G.Skill Ripjaws 1600
Fans: 6x Xigmatek XLF 120mm
Displays: 2x NEC Multisync PA271w & 1x Dell u2410

May add a fan controller later

Pics to come soon.

Okay here are some pictures of what I got so far. The wiring is a mess. I need to order extensions. The caselab case is too big haha. Also day when I have more time I may sleeve the fan cables. I'm gonna put a loop in someday too.

Sorry I took so many pictures. I'm kinda fanatical when it comes to taking pictures. Anyway, enjoy.

It posts!!

Windows 8 looking good!

That's all for now. When I get extensions and tidy the wiring I'll post the final pics. Thanks for looking.

I'll have to wait a bit to give you an opinion about the cooler. The 3 front case fans aren't running yet because I need either extensions or a fan controller. In it's current state at stock clocks my cores are hovering from 25-31 C (Idle) with the 2 fans in push configuration. When I get al the fans up I'll run prime to test load temps then may do a gentle OC just for fun. The pump on the cooler is quiet for sure. I can slightly hear the fans in my case over background noise. Of course they aren't the quietest fans but I liked the look.

How loud is the video card when just doing things like web browsing?

Very quiet. I'm playing bf3 maxed out 1440p right now and can't hear the videocard over my case fans. I've left the card at stock for now.
