Yeah, so far it looks as if an HDMI switch would be the route to try out first...do you have any experience using one?

Sorry I do not have any experience with one, but like I said its only ten dollars, so why not give it a go and see if it works.

With that said I might be going this route my self, I have two monitors that I use, plus a 46" lcd. Until now I've just been swapping the cables by hand between my secondary and the tv. Its never bothered me, so I was always to lazy to look up a solution.

So if I can figure this switch out...what would be the best way for me to use my PC as more of a multimedia center and be able to play the movies directly onto my TV?

I wanted to use something capable of organizing and playing all types of media (torrented movies are all different) into nice interfaces etc. such as XBMC. If I use this "switch" as above... can I still utilize a multimedia center such as XBMC on my PC and watch them on my TV?

do you have a ps3 xbox 360 somthing that you can just stream over the network? if not a switch would work, or you could get another video card to put in you computer and run the tv strictly off that that. Theres a few different ways of doing it, just depends on what you want to spend.

For XBMC you just have to go to settings--> system --> video output and select the secondary monitor to be the primary for xbmc (I haven't used XBMC in about a year but I believe the steps above are correct)

So when you start XBMC, after setting it up it should just launch into full screen on your tv (I just use my android phone as a remote for XBMC, total media theater, ect)

Well obviously I want the cheapest way to watch stuff on my PC on my TV that actually works. Yes I have an Xbox but it no longer has XBox Live as I never use it and I feel like there is an easier way.

I just want to store media on external hard drive, plug that hard drive into my PC when I want to watch a movie, and then watch that movie on my TV. I feel like a switch may work but I have a feeling if I "switch" to the TV it may shut off a monitor (therefore I wouldnt be able to select movies etc from my PC bc the screen would be turned off) or maybe it will even bypass some third party multimedia components of my PC (like I want to use XBMC) and not work properly on my TV?

Im just very confused now

Wait this sounds awesome..yes I want to use XBMC. So if I have two monitors...I can set it to one of my monitors directly? The problem is..you said when i start XBMC it should launch into full screen on my TV but I dont have a way of connecting my PC to my TV as the 2 gpu slots are taken? And thats why Im scared to buy this swith, I feel like if I "switch" one of the monitors off then it will mess up XBMC on my TV?

If the secondary monitor and the tv have the same resolution (1920x1080) then you should be just fine, if not then read below.

What I would do is use the program Actual multiple monitors, it lets you have a taskbar on the second monitor, plus you can save profiles.

So when you switch from the two monitors to the monitor + the tv, all you would need to do is press the button on the switch to change from the second monitor to the tv, then right click on the winodws desktop and press switch to profile tv (or what ever you would call it)

Then you would just need to launch XBMC

That sounds nice and maybe I can look into it after I figure this mess out...I want to be able to run dual monitors and stream from PC to TV....can I bypass all of this by simply unplugging monitor 2 and plugging in the from TV to PC cable in its place when I want to watch movies?

The switch is just the lazy way of doing just that. XBMC should be fine with going full screen if set up for the second monitor, the steps above are only for if its acting up on you, and wont remember the settings
