Yea. Pretty sure it was the power supply being both cards are now gone. 570 was running stock as it was crunching a 8018 and those put out a good bit of heat.

Not really, it won't damage it unless one is an egghead and run high volts/clocks with insufficient cooling. My 570 has been running since about this time last year pretty much 24/7, except for maybe a month or two over the summer as it was too hot.
