[CT] Apple Bans Blu-ray From Macs. - Page 29

Blu Ray ... that what you get for siding with Sony for a standard as opposed to the porn industry and HD-DVD. biggrin.gif

This'll come back to haunt them.

Blu-ray films are pretty cheap these days. And they don't use up hugh amounts of bandwidth, won't be lost if the HDD dies, don't need another expensive HDD once the first one is filled up, better quality than DD and can be played at other peoples houses too.

That and BD is highly useful for large scale backups. Mainly of music and pictures that can be stored cheaply in a cupboard somewhere instead of on an expensive HDD.

It's about iTunes primary, thinner computers secondary.

THEN WHY DO THEY SELL EXTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVES?

I wrote that with the caps lock on, in bold using a large font. Hopefully you will see that now.

Oh, Apple sell External Blu-Ray drives? Or did they divide by zero and somehow shoe horn HD content onto 4GB DVD's?

I think you will find the answer is no to both those questions.

You can block cap all you want. apple have more than one motive for stopping including Blu-Ray drives.

Does Windows offer native BD support?

Do Microsoft sell PC's?

(I can play the "being obtuse with my intentions" game too)

Blu-Ray drives quite often come with the software to play them:

Your point is completely moot.

Apple stand to gain from removing the option for these drives. Many Mac users won't want to go with unofficial stuff or won't want an "ugly" looking external device and will simply opt for iTunes purchases < - prove that wrong and I'll shut up.

They sell the XBOX and now the MS surface.

Do either of those have native BD support?

Microsoft backed the other standard ... HD-DVD with their XBox.

As far as the surface, it's so thin there is no room to put an HD-DVD, CD-ROM, or BD.

At least it has removable storage ... unlike the iPad.

So please, just stop.
