Dont forget that you have to be online to even use the faulty device.

I agree. We all have these optical drives in our computers. But how many users use it more than once a year? And if you actually need an optical drive, just use a USB one.

I agree completely. People can have their preferences and views of a company all day long, that's no problem at all. But the hoards of users coming into every Apple thread just to rant/rage/hate and blatantly destroy all Apple threads then claim free speech is disgusting. Some of these people need to learn if you don't like thread, topic, post or thereof to simply ignore it. But they think anyone trying to say such a thing is censoring them.

Meh, maybe it's just a dream that one day people will get a bit more sense frown.gif

I use my optical drives daily which is why I dislike diskless Apple. I have hundreds of movies in my various hard drives, I have work images and movies that need burnt. I do back up family photos and archival DVD's as well as other media. I'm not ready to give up optical yet.

One could argue that the problem will go away as download speeds get faster and faster, but that's nonsense because companies are going toward tiered internet and bandwidth caps.

And that's just watching movies. What about the millions of people that create home videos/slideshows to share with friends and family?

Sigh. For a tech website we're becoming more and more ignorant to things that should be obvious to techies.

Yeah, I have noticed this quite a bit. Physical media is not going to die for a long time, this is a fact that is hard to uncover due to so much propaganda brainwashing individuals into thinking physical media is dying when in fact millions still use it on their PC's and billions use it across the world on other devices.

No. Most/All complaining have sworn time and time again in countless other Apple threads they'd never buy or use Apple devices. This is the problem with this forum, and it's a serious one.

I am glad I am not one of those people. Honestly, I would like a MAC Mini and a Macbook Pro 15 inch. They are nice, but I can wait to get either of those due to other priorities. I despise the Macbook Air.

Name the last time a(n);

iDevice had a disc drive?
Macbook Pro had a disc drive?
Macbook Air had a disc drive?
Man Mini had a disc drive?
iMac had a disc drive?

This is the direction Apple has been moving for some time now, and yet people are still buying Macs. So if this was such a bad decision Apple would have stopped selling all of their macbook line last year, would have never sold a macbook air, would of stopped selling mac mini's a year + ago, and right now would not be selling iMacs.

So guess what your options are Mr. Paratrooper?

You can buy an external USB disc drive and continue using Apple
or
You can just not buy Apple devices and continue using PC's
or
You adapt to a more digital age and continue using Apple

I am sure more companies will not include optical drives in their portable devices too.

If you can't stick a Blu-ray or DVD in your new Apple computer, you might download the film from iTunes instead. More money for Apple's coffers, but not so great if you have a large collection of DVDs

And hopefully soon. I haven't used my dell laptop's dvd drive in years. And with people wanting lighter and thinner profile portable products will adapt to no optical disc, there's few ways to go. One is outing the optical disc drive and the other is the next thickest port, the ethernet port which apple also did away with.

LMAO! That post of yours is insulting, has irrelevant points and there is some sidestepping and bias. Macbook Pro currently has a disc drive. Don't care about the Macbook Air, Lenovo makes better compact laptops (IMO). Mac Mini had one 2 revisions ago. iMac had one 1 revision ago to my knowledge.

And your three options are idiotic at best. PC's are superior with the exception of Garageband. Find proof that they are not and I will give that to you. But, last time I checked, there are PC's that are around the same price if not cheaper than Mac's that have a higher build quality in both the computer and power supply. Longer battery life in smaller batteries.
