Pixel problem with my ASUS LED Monitor

Hey guys, something recently caught my eye gaming last night... a pixel that I believe is stuck that's sort of a light greyish color. It's absolutely driving me nuts because now that I know that it's there, my eyes gravitate right to it. It seems to show up on light backround scenes more than dark ones.

Figured it was stuck rather than dead, I heard dead pixels are either red, green, blue, yellow or just completely black.

I was reading around on google to see if there was a fix and stumbled upon people using programs to fix issues with pixels like the one I currently have.

Does anyone have experience with these sorts of programs? Do they actually work? Would someone be kind enough to recommend a free one to me if possible?

I would rather not do that "massage" method where people put pressure on the pixel to get it unstuck, so i'm really hoping those programs actually work.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, I hope to hear from someone soon.

A stuck pixel is typically hardware failure. By all means try the software, but don't expect it to work. If it's just one dead pixel, it's not a big deal. It's not uncommon with these high-res monitors. I mean, a 1080p monitor has over 2 MILLION pixels. For one of them to be bad is relatively negligible. .0000047% of your pixels are bad. That's a 99.999952% success rating. I have a dead pixel on my screen, which drives me crazy....but I've learned to ignore it. I know it's not the answer you were hoping for, sorry.

The program **might** work, but I've never known them to....YMMV. Try it out, what do you have to lose?

I appreciate your response. I'm going to have to try so hard to ignore it, I have really bad OCD and it just eats me up inside knowing that it's there.

Do you have a recommendation for a program to try though? I don't have high hopes for it, but i'm definitely willing to try something out.

None that I know of are worth trying. BTW, I understand your OCD problem. MY one bad pixel is staring me in the face right now biggrin.gif

If it's dead, the software won't help it. But if it's stuck, it may. I had a stuck pixel on my old G2 Phone, I used a program that flashed multiple colors on the screen, and eventually, it actually fixed this pixel. So give it a shot. Visit you tube, I'm sure there are videos that just flash multiple colors on screen.

I had 2 stuck pixels on this monitor when I got it. Was pretty annoying once I discovered them, but one was in a corner and the other was a subtle color so I just learned to ignore it.

The color flashing and massaging didn't work at all after several attempts, so I gave up on them.

Somewhere along the past 4 years, both of them fixed themselves. I guess flashing colors is no substitute for years of hardcore gaming tongue.gif

Hey Moridin - the company I work for is a large scale factory repair facility for many different OEM panel and TV manufacturer's (you can google us - Ozark Electronics Repair, Inc.)

I only mention that to qualify what I'm going to tell you. A gray pixel is unusual because there are three distinct defect categories for pixels on a LCD or LED screen;

Dead, stuck and hot. Of those three the two types we see most often are dead and stuck.

Dead pixels do not energize and therefore do not display any color at all and usually show up as a black pixel on your otherwise good screen (here is why grey is unusual).

A stuck pixel is energized but doesn't usually change from one color or another. Stuck pixels usually display in one of the primary colors, but I've seen them in any color that you can make from mixing the primary colors.

If you have a dead pixel, there is absolutely nothing you can do. Other than return the monitor or learn to live with it.

If your grey pixel is stuck, you might try a program like jscreen fix; http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php

We don't normally have much success with programs like this, but you can try. Another trick is to massage the stuck pixel. This takes time, patience and caution, but it does work sometimes. Get a soft cotton swab and wet it down with hot water and some dishwashing soap (the soap is only intended to provide lubricity so you don't scratch the screen or polarizer). Massage the dead pixel in a circular motion with the tip of the cotton swab. Rinse, rewet, repeat. At some point this will either work or it won't.

You can try both methods and see if it gets any better. However, let me emphasize again - if it is a dead pixel it's highly unlikely you can do anything with it.
