About to hit buy on a 5970, for £205, any second thoughts? - Page 5

A 6970 is a great card. but x-fired with a 6950 I find that the performance isn't quite good enough for new games and the 2gb vram can be a limitation if you use any mods or like to max settings. The 7950 3gb is the best choice for you. You will like the 6970 but a 7950 is a better choice imo.

I'm also using Eyefinity and I really hope you're not going to get anything less than a 7950. That's the bare minimum GPU if you want to do a single card, has to be at least 2GB+, or else forget about AA. The 5970 is good for single monitor-gaming, but not Eyefinity and having had 2x 5870s, the transition to a single 7950 was more than welcomed.

Having your screens in portrait (3240x1920) would require less GPU power than having it in landscape (5760x1080). I can max out most games with my single 7950 with Eyefinity, but putting it in landscape makes a lot of games unplayable in their max settings.

What about a 4GB HD6990?
Thanks for the input. Also, what do I do for best fraps performance.

Not made any offers.
I'm on a very tight budget and want to spend as little as possible for a decent card. I will not be doing any eyefinity now.
I am only going to use one monitor 1680x1050 and have the other two off for gaming.
I saw an OEM HD 6870 for £80 and an OEM 6970 for £125 almost pulled the trigger on one or the other.
However I am still looking at dual GPU cards.

dont get a oem of an old card

edit:

i also owned a 6870 and it was also a very good card at the time medium settings at 1080 was mostly fine and i also did eyefinity with a single 6870 on 3 x 1366 x 768 screens and 3 x 1920 x 1080 screens and at low settings the games i played were fine, dragon age 2 was awesome on that setup. i got my 6870 new the day it came out never overclocked it and it died 2 years later so i would go for a new 6870 if you can here's a new one around the price of a used 6950

You also have to watch out for a lot of the 5K series cards since those were extensively used for bitcoin mining. Those would be run at 100% usage 24/7 for a period of months or even years.

I'd be folding on it too.
Bitcoin isnt even cost effective with power bills and whatever, why do people even do it?
If even one miner made me 10p per hour, there'd be 100 of them in my garage right now.
