bad performance on new Sapphire 7950 - Page 2

Is this isolated to WoW? Or is this issue something that occurs in other games as well. If the card performs well in other programs it would seem that there is some conflict between WoW and the drivers, but if its happening in everything else, than it may just be a bad card. You might also see if it works well in your GF's rig... but definitely should not see that low performance in Wow with that card...

Thanks for the help guys - I caved and decided to reinstall Windows, which I was due for anyhow. Long story short my driver / performance issues were remedied - I am not getting 50fps at stock settings. It will only get better once I overclock it.

This leaves me wondering what exactly caused the problem - and why atiman was unable to solve it. Obviously seems to be a driver issue, but somewhere, somehow, there was a file that I probably could have deleted that would have remedied this.

On a second note, in my bios, I have PCI-E options where I would normally have set the 16x/16x or 8x/8x crossfire speeds, but since I have only one card, my options are "Auto" "Gen1" and "Gen2". I have it set to auto, but what are these Gen1 Gen2 options, and do they matter for performance?

Are you on the 12.11 beta drivers. if yes do you have BF3 and can you post fraps scores on the HD 7950 under max stable overclocks. Also if possible Heaven 3.0 . You could post both in the HD 7900 users thread

I am using the 12.10 drivers, but now that its working I will probably try out the 12.11 beta. Unfortunatly I do not have BF3, but when I get home from school I can definitely run some heaven on both 12.10 and 12.11 (after I OC a bit tongue.gif )

I also intend to get my 3dMark and Cinebench scores posted as well. I'm more than happy to provide my results

with 12.10 drivers and using Trixx to OC to 1100/1500

I'm getting 9250 on 3dmark11 (720p test)

104fps on cinebench64 car scene,

scored 1982 77fps average on heaven benchmark with: moderate tessellation, AF=16x AA=4x Shaders=high 1920x1080

edit: with 12.11beta drivers, my results are nearly identical to 12.10

use meaa not ssa or adaptative .those are ressource hog if you use ssaa dont go past 1 or 2 x also usually you want to use game setting not gpu setting ,since most often some stuff isnt compatible

Are you using any forms of AA in drivers?

I have AA and AS set to "use application settings" in CCC. I set MSx8 and ASx16 through the WoW graphical settings. at the moment I am getting a solid 60 fps just about everywhere in WoW at fully max settings.

reinstalling windows fixed my driver issues entirely.

Ok then good to know.

BTW what is your vrm temps during full load (check with GPU-z - select show max values and game like 30 mins with overclock)
