This a Good card?

Thread Starter
I have seen the deal about getting a 7xxx series card and i have been thinking maybe its time to upgrade my GTX470 - i was looking at THIS and was wondering is it worth the upgrade. I have also been thinking about going Xfire -the price seems good and now i have a full time job i have much more expendable income and with getting extra copies of the games i would sell them which would reduce the cost even more.

Is there any sites that show performance comparisons between these cards - i have looked online but couldnt find anything that showed performance in actual games rather then saying what part are stronger in each card

Here are a few comparisons
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/519?vs=645
Don't know how up to date the drivers are that where using but i'm guessing performance has gone up a bit with the new drivers anyways the HD7950 is pretty awesome.

that card your thinking of will definitely be a vast improvement over your gtx470.. with the new drivers and a nice overclock you can push it to close to 680's performance roughly

Thanks, seems like it would be a great jump in performance - Wondering though about the new 8xxx series. Worth waiting for? Do we have a price range or anything for them yet?

In all honesty you would see better performance gains for your money and future proof further by getting a 2600k or something ivy bridge. And then waiting for next generation cards and picking up another 470 for cheap in the meantime to double your performance.

Im not switching to Intel - i like AMD price > performance for me. They might be slightly better but im not switching and having to buy a new Motherboard, CPU and new RAM

Im using all 4 slots, Intel is tree-channel thus having to drop RAM and either leaving it and using lower RAM (x24gb, 1x2gb) or dropping the 2gb stick as well and going 3x4GB

Um actually Z68 and Z77 which contains all of socket 1155 which is most second and third gen processors (like the 2500K, 2600K, 2700K, 3570K, 3770K) uses dual channel so it would work just fine.

So in short, no, Intel uses dual channel as well, unless you go with older socket 1366, or the 2011 sockets which I think are mostly quad channel.
