well, i might look to the OCN marketplace, people are always selling mobo combos and cpus. Thats one route to go if you want to save some money and dont mind used parts

Good idea. I'll look around that. The thing is, I'm not sure how many people want to ship their items to Canada. :/

you don't even really need a hard drive if all it will do is fold.

I used this guide to set up a dedicated folder of spare parts which is chugging away at 9k ppd on an unlocked PII X2 (see Spare Parts rig in sig). It has no hard drive, just an 8gig USB stick.

and what's wrong with caseless? tongue.gif

I would personally go with the 3570k instead of the 2500k, my 3570k in my tc rig runs cooler then my 2500k (both at 4.8 and under water) and was easier to overclock, and its a folding beast in Ubuntu 10.10 with v7, and I average 900k to 1 million points a month with it. Its also more power efficient then the 2500k.

and its caseless

That's a good point about the 3570k. I kind of skipped my mind over it because lots of people says it runs hotter than SB, but it does take less power. I'll check it out, thanks for the recommendation!

As for having no hard drive, I'd be cool with that because I'm sure I have a few USB sticks lying around of decent size, and it would save me like $60.

Ummm will the EVGA 120-SB-E682-KR Motherboard work with out a dedicated GPU? It does not even support onboard iGPU. I would look for a board that supports onboard graphics using the HD4000 in the CPU if you go with the 3570K. This way you will have some video optput for setup/configuration.

Other than that its a nice build. Would make a decent HTPC also. wink.gif

When I built my tc dedicated rig I just bought a cheap $25 gpu to go with it. I only use a monitor maybe twice a week if that

No problem. I plan to eventually switch the 2500k in my main rig to a 3570k...unless I really feel like splurging and getting an i7, lol. I just used a spare hardrive I had kicking around for my dedicated rig, but a flash drive would work just the same

I don't think I'd even need a GPU. The integrated GFX should probably be good enough.

As for upgrading, why are you planning to upgrade to a 3570k? Sounds like you have an awesome 2500k chip, if you have it at 4.8 GHz. Is that 24/7 stable? IMO, upgrading would be a waste of $220, for like 5% more performance, and hotter running chips.

Im only talking if it died biggrin.gif its 24/7 stable for the most part, i need to bump up vcore 1 more notch as it bsod maybe once or twice a week, although i did just upgrade the psu so maybe thats not an issue anymore. And an ivy at 4.8 equals a sandy at 5.0 tongue.gif

I decided to go with a dedicated gpu for my dedicated since i use it for tc, just for the off chance igpu would throw off ppd by even a little (not likely, but for $25 it was worth not taking the chance)

One other thing, make sure your board supports ivybridge out of the box. The board on my dedi didnt and i actually had to throw a 2500k in it to flash the board so i could run the 3570k.

That's what I've heard with a ton of the 1155 boards, and it's a real pain on some of them to do that too.

As for the dedicated GPU, if the points were thrown off by like what? 1k PPD? I'd be fine with that. If it was like 10kPPD that it was off though, then I'd think about switching to a dedicated GPU.

Oh, and yay! 200 posts! lol
