Hi everyone I've been off the forum for sometime now. (Join the army MOS 13F).
I've keep with a little this and that. Notebook wise.
But every time I'm on newegg thinking about going back to desktop platform I get lost in the wind.
Where I left off at. In terms of the CPU world
If someone can give me some starting article's or benchmark's so I know what is trending now. In compared of where I lefted off at and what I currently have(Sig Rig).
I really appreciated it a lot!!!

Thank you for your time in advance!!

i dont know much about amd but for intel it would be

I3 for light gaming

i5 2500k/ i53570k for gaming and everyday use for average prople

and the i7 2600k/2700k/3770k for gaming and video editing or anything that require lots of cores.

the i5 series dont have hyper threading (4 cores will basically turn into 8) where as the i7 series do.

the new ivy bridge (3570k/3770k) have a few new features over the older sandy bridge ( 2500k/2600k/2700k) mainly PCI 3.0 and will beat the sandy bridge clock for clock but not by much.

if you are an overclock ( your on OCN so im guessing yes) the new ivy bridge does run hotter but can be tamed with a water set up or replacing the TIM ( de lidded ivy club )

this is very brief so others chime in please!! thumb.gif

bench between the i5 2500k (sandy) and i5 3570k (ivy)

What about the newer sockets?
LGA 1366? Is that the intel standard? (Never Mind. Teaching myself alittle on wiki)(I'm at this point but on the moblie side)
LGA 1155 is next? I'm confused?
LGA 1156 just buffer from LGA1366 to LGA1155?

Latest offering from AMD ( desktop ):- "Piledriver" Fx-8350. Review/benchmark - Just FYI, Piledriver comes after "Bulldozer" which was AMDs new architecture after their Phenom's. Surprisingly, Bulldozer failed miserably - increased power comsumption, poor gaming performance when compared with their previous architecture. AMD fall further behind Intel in the desktop market.

AMD's APU. Overview of AMD Fusion
- AMDs only real grasp versus Intel. Their APUs outperform Intel, not least helped by the acquisition of 'ATI'.

Best gaming CPUs for the money (AUG 2012).

In terms of Sockets: - 1155 is Intel's standard at the moment ( Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge), 2011 is Intel' 'enthusiast' line.
AMD has FM1,FM2,FM3 for their APUs and AM3/3+ for their Phenom/Bulldozer/Piledriver CPUs.

This is only a brief overview of the desktop market at the moment; i'm not sure how much detail you want, or how much you already know. Hopefully this is a starting point. thumb.gif

Again, sorry for multiple posts, i couldn't get it all nice on 1 post.

I left off with the phenom II X4 BE I think 940 (Being the flagship at the time)
Explain with this APU (I assuming and shouldn't is the fusion?)

I just took an overview of all the AMD's processor's on newegg the most expensive one is the 8 core for 190$! WHAT?
Is AMD really losing market share that bad?
Or are they playing to a different tune?
